When I connect to dock water supply my tank overfills and I only have a small amount of water coming out of my overflow valve at the side of the hull.
My water tank became bulbous with the water pressure on it.
When I took the water inlet cap off the side of the boat, I had an explosion of water shooting out.
If you have any ideas as to what is causing my problem, please share.
thank you in advance!!!

I assume when hooked to dock water hose you should not be getting water in your tank (it should be bypassed). I would trace the line from dock inlet to your water distribution system (manifold) for some check valve issue. This is the way the new boats are but yours may be different.

What tbirdvet said. It is supposed to bypass the tank and water pump to supply direct pressure to all onboard faucets. Again your may have been plumbed diffrent or incorrectly modified somewhere along the line.

Quick reminder.....city water pressure can sink a boat quick if a water line breaks inside the cabin/bilge. I never leave the dock water on if I'm not at the boat, Mike.

There is no way dock water should be able to find its way to your freshwwater tank, except through the filler tube on the outside of the boat. There may have been a previous owner that plumbed it so that he could fill his tank this way.

Find your freshwater tank and check the water line coming from it. There should be a cutoff valve before the freshwater pump with a small screen filter on it. Water from the outside dock would never be able to flow backwards against this pump.
