- A Ford 351, a couple GM 350s and a Cummins 6BT to pull it all (W250)
My brother and his family took the 260 out this weekend. He can't get it on plane. The RPM's max out at 3500. Its a chevy 350 and Merc 1. He played with the trim tabs and outdrive to no avail. Not overloaded, just 4 people and stuff.
The only thing I did to it before was to change out the plugs, cap & rotor, new fuel filters (in-line & carb) and attempt to adjust idle mixture. (it has the correct prop on it now). Also greased the steering.
The Rockchester carb has idled rich since we got it until it warms up. The idle mixture screws don't affect it. They were out about 3 turns and I left them in at 2 turns. Hadn't had time to fiddle with the choke yet which I figure is sticking maybe.
The one thing I'm wondering about is that I got the short carb filter at NAPA. It was a corrugated paper one, where the old one was a plastic screen. Could that be restricting fuel flow? I almost didn't replace it due to the difference, but after it started and didn't leak I figured it was OK. I kept the old plastic one just in case.
Same thing happed to me after I summerized but I blamed it on the wrong prop size then (had a 19 on it at the time). He's the next to use it and he's 3 hours away from me.
Any ideas?
