I need to remove the shade/screen assembly that covers the deck hatch to replace one of the latches that broke. I read through the online installation manual, and a few other related posts here on CSR from people that have repaired theirs, so I thought I was in good shape. When I tried to remove it today, however, I got stumped. There are four screws, one at each corner that appear to be all that hold it in place. They are concealed with little covers that flip back. I removed all four screws but the assembly would not drop down. It was a little looser, but not free to be removed. I didn't want to force it too much in case something broke.

Does anyone else have any experience with these? I must be missing something obvious.

Any help would be appreciated!

I thought I would update this thread in case it is ever of use to anyone else in the future. I called 3 dealerships and Sea Ray customer support and they all said the assembly should just fall off once the screws were removed. This was not the case, but I did figure it out. There is a piece of plastic trim that goes around the inner perimeter of the hatch. It has a tab (is it a tab, or a ridge...?) that runs all the way around, which snaps into a channel in the shade assembly. You have to pry this out (it is fairly flexible). I was able to do it with my fingers, but the corners required quite a bit of force.

These pictures should explain it better:

That's some helpful info! Mine is living on borrowed time. Do you know how easy/difficult it would be to replace the shade part of the unit?

If your shade is the same as the one I have, I think it would be easy. The OCEANair website is very good and has all the installation and maintenance documentation for the shade itself.

Here it is for my particular model: http://www.oceanair.co.uk/skyscreenrollersurface.aspx.

Once you have the shade assembly down, four screws on the backside are all that need to be removed to disassemble the entire thing.

Resurrecting a pretty old thread, I have a 20"x20" Oceanair Skyscreen on my VBerth hatch. While making the bed, it was bumped and "slam-retracted". It now won't retract at all, so I'm wondering if anyone has successfully repaired them or if I need to look for a new one. I think I can figure out how to take it down, but where to go after that is not clear to me.

I searched for new ones and the size that I need appears to be over $350. And of course, it wouldn't match the other 2 in the galley/lounge area, so it would probably be a triple replacement approaching $1000. Anyone have suggestions?

I owned a 2006 260DA. The retract part is spring loaded just line a window shade. Go to the Ocean Aire website and if you cannot find instructions on how to tighten yours up, find their phone number and call them. I removed mine, tightened the spring a few turns, and it worked like new. I thought those instructions were posted on here. I will look and see if I can find them.
