Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Thank you. I believe I am the 5th owner, but I have all of the paperwork all the way back to the original owner. It would be fun to try to find the guy and let him know his boat is still as sharp.

On the weekender it is Port side all the way in the rear corner of the bilge.

Could I see some pics of where everyone has their ac units installed? I just picked up an 11000 btu reverse cycle that needs a new compressor, got it really cheap.

Update - After a couple of attempts to get my Service guy to look at the macerator (failed attempts) for the head...decided to 'Man Up' and took it apart myself (after extensive internet research)...no obstruction just need lubrication (used white lithium grease)...put it back together minus the o-ring (need a new one for next spring $3.49) and it works like a charm...

Can't tell you how much I enjoy this forum - thanks for all info that is on this site. I really like having direct drive inboards vs. inboard outboards and I really like the Weekender!

I will be checking in from time to time on our cohorts down South when it is in the dead of Winter up here! Keep posting!

I f you go back in this forum till the spring of this year you can see pictures of my install and where I put it

I know, and you do to now, why he didn't want to do it....did mine this summer.....nasty job!!! Actually did it twice. Took it apart and got it working and about a month later it quit again....so then I just replaced it with a new one..highly recommended!

I'm getting geared up to upgrade my stereo in my 300 weekender, and would like to see what you guys have all done and give me some ideas and suggestions... like what amps, head units, speakers and placement of all this stuff...I'm wanting at least one sub probably two, with at least two mids and two tweeters in the cockpit seating area and a couple good full range in the cabin. also would like to be able to bypass the amp and possibly control the subs separately. want good clean powerful sound.Show me what ya got! I've searched and cant really find much on this.

Might be just me but once those twins are up and running, I can't hear any stereo and at slow cruise my IPod on a Bose dock works just fine. I've got a nice system, I just never use it. Good luck with the upgrade

I installed a Kenwood head unit with 2 cheap Kenwood speakers in the cabin and 2 Kenwood component speakers in the cockpit. The woofers are down low in the back ant the tweeters up at the helm facing rear. No amp and it sounds amazing! Over the winter I will be gathering up 2 10" subs and an amp. The amp will be a Rockford Fosgate. It's a new style that are very small and use very little juice to run. With the current configuration I can hear music no problem at 2000 rpm, after that all I hear is the sweet sound of 5.7's running in sync!

I have the standard tachometers that came with the boat. How close do yours read to each other when the engines are synchronized? Right on, or not so much?

400 RPM's off. I use my ear, and the sync gauge is right on. Port gauge reads higher.

I installed two brand new tachs and a new sync guage this past summer and they true I suppose, but the new sync doesn't seem to do anything...dont know why as the old one seemed to work, but I'm like H2Onut....I don't care about the sync, just go by ear. Its just like tuning a guitar, when ya hear the engines go wah wah wah wah adjust throttles til ya get a steady waaaahhh...lol.. and cruise on brother. the only way to know would be to use an optical tach to insure the tachs are ready correct

I think the synchronizer works because the engines sound in tune with each other. It is my Stb tach that reads about 200 higher at cruise. Sometimes it gets stuck and I have to give it a few taps to get it going. I'm wondering if this is a symptom of the gauge going out or if there is wiring or other problem.

H2ONUT, which tach do you believe-the higher one or the lower one when you want to cruise at say, 3,000?

my guess is its the tach itself. If it was wiring,it would be intermittent or stop working all together since it just picks up off the distributer. There is no way of knowing or guessing which is correct without a known good gage or an optical tach or mechanical that you can place against the front of the crank....you might go to a parts store and if they have a timing light with a tack on it, that will tell ya what ya got. they will rent or loan them.

Port side runs about 400 or so higher than my STBD. My sync gauge works just fine but I still go by sound. Seahorse cruises very nicely at 3100rpms getting me to 29.2mph (rpms might have been around 3400 at that point)

Yeah, it doesn't really matter. I have been going off of the ports side tach for rpm but who knows? Maybe the stb is the right one. Maybe neither.
