Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Does anyone have pictures of where they have mounted their grill on the 290?

I often just leave mine up on the bow rail. I hate having to get it out and store it because it would always make a mess. Plus, I wasn't interested in making any more holes or having it in the way out back. I think it works well there and when I'm done I just put the cover back on. It's nice to sit up front with a beer cooking and watching the action from a different point of view.

Mine is mounted with a rod holder mount on the aft port corner. I'll get a picture in a few days once vacation is done.

John - you got too much time on your hands. That's a matter of perspective. I work 45 hours a week (and get many after-hours calls from work) and I'm a full time single parent plus I spend a lot of time helping out my parents these days. Thanks for the corrections to my post (Cincy - I am sorry for the mis-read/typo calling you Cindy). No problem, don't take it the wrong way. What would you call the area with the twin berth - it is an aft cabin. No, it's a mid cabin... an aft cabin is a different layout. Even if that is not technically correct - that is the best way to describe that space No it isn't. and certainly something everyone understands and how Sea Ray describes it. Sea Ray calls the mid cabin a "mid cabin". I am sure all the readers followed me. I'm sure they did too. I was only pointing out the terminology because you own the boat... you might as well call it what it is. You must be a very important person in your "after boating" life . . . keep on posting. I'm not sure what you mean by that but whatever it is... no comment.
Relax and have a nice day.

Mine sits on the starboard side. I bought a "LeveLock" adjustable fish rod holder mount for my Magma BBQ. When not in use, the pole folds flat against the bottom and the whole thing goes into the aft storage.

I wish you were closer. I'd consider it. Also, is it the standard white/ivory color?

$750 is a good price. When I bought mine, the dealer who had one leftover (PO bought it but backed out) said that dealer cost was $1000 - not including install. (Take that for what its worth and however much you trust a dealer to give you his price.) But, it was going to sit on their shelf, so I got it in the deal.

That is a very good price. I just happened to have my factory options list...SR charged 917.00 for mine.

John - First, I'm tentative on this site until I gain experience, but are you still selling the sunpad?

Hello Folks!

Just spent the past 3 days in the river with family and we had a great time. Couple of questions...

-Has anyone figured out how to increase the air circulation in the mid cabin without running A/C?

-I see that there is a release on the hatch actuator so if you run down your batteries you can still get into the engine compartment. Once the release is out, how would actually you get the hatch open? Seems quite heavy.

Thanks!

Anyone ever find the stubbed out wires for ACC2?

Here is what I know. It would have been used at the factory if the option under water lights had been selected. It has a breaker on the aft EIM (ACC1, BTW has a breaker on the FWD EIM). I have searched the engine room wiring harness and I cant find it. Tech in Knoxville told me it was a red wire but there drawings did not specify where it would be stubbed if not used.

I went down to the boat today to look at starting the A/C drip pan replacement. I can't figure out how to get the bench seat bottom up. Any ideas? Pic below.

I've taken up all the screws that are seen, but this bench is still down secure. I can't see any way that it would be attached, though it definitely is. Has anyone taken this up?

Matt: The following was sent to me by another member who did this project:

There are screws at each end of the seat cushion. Sea Ray likes to hide them so I had to feel through the seat material along the edge of the board at each end and could feel a small depression or screw head. If you looked close there was a very small cut in the material to insert your screwdriver. I think there were two at each end. Be patent because it took me a while to find them. I bet I went over them same area 3 or 4 times before finding them.

I had to kill power at the circuit breaker, remove the power cord and then unplug the flat RJ45 cable that goes to the control panel. Then loosen and remove the flexible blower hose. The unit was held down with 3 or 4 tie-down brackets and hex head screws that you just remove. You will need to drill out the pop rivets holding the compressor and condensor to the old pan, with a large drill bit. Then to assemble on new pan you will need a pop rivet gun and aluminum pop rivets. The steel rivets will rust. The drain hose nipple that was on the old pan had to be replaced. It looked too small for the opening in the new pan, so I bought one a little larger. I think the original nipple was the wrong size too because someone had used lots of caulk to try and seal the nipple to the pan. Reverse the removal process and you are done. It was pretty straightforward.

I ran into an issue that I'm not sure how to fix. On my walk thru windshield section you will note there is a separate piece of stainless that is tack welded only to the windshield frame of that folding section. It serves to overlap the stationary section when closed by resting on it. The little securing knobs/latches are underneath it. Well that piece of stainless came off and I am not sure how best to re-fasten it. I don't have access to a welder. Rivets maybe? Or some other form of adhesive. This is the best pic I have access to showing it. Its the piece that overlaps.

Cincy - Thank you so much. I found the slits in the material and got the screws out. All is done now. New pan installed. I appreciate everything!

Cincy,

I don't think that adhesive will do. That piece holds the weight of the walk-thru and takes the brunt of every wave hit. I think multiple rivets would work, but you'll have to be careful drilling so close to the edge of the glass. Welding would be the best bet (IMO), even if you have to pay a shop to do it.

Matt, I assume your pan was leaking? If so, where did it first show up?

Thanks

Disregard, I found the rest of the story in Gen Maint.

quick question for all you 290 folks.. my big hang up with this boat is the lack of a seat for the captain to streatch out on on a trip. Can two mpeople fit at the helm ??
My dealer is trying to put me into a 2007 trade but I don't know. On the other hand we really like the area below decks on the 290 better than our 280.

No leak. Just rust in my shower sump. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Glad you found the answer.

The helm seat on my '08 is a two-person wide seat. If you are talking about a different seat, please clarify.

OK, everyone. Here is another engine data run. Conditions were fairly calm. This was about 45 minutes into an ~hour and a half run.

The engines are 5.0l MPIs in my 2008 290DA.

RPM:
Port - 3440 rpm
Stbd - 3450 rpm

Fuel Burn:
Total - 22.61 gph
Port - 11.0 gph
Stbd - 11.2 gph

Oil Pressure:
Port - 59.6 psi
Stbd - 56.5 psi

Water Pressure:
(New impellers one month and ~5 engine hours ago.)
Port - 15.8 psi
Stbd - 7.1 psi (I believe I have a bad pressure transducer, but haven't troubleshot it yet to be sure.)

Engine Temperatures:
Port - 156F
Stbd - 156F

Speed: 24.8 mph (GPS)

Trim Tabs:
Full Up

Drive Positions:
Port - 2
Stbd - 2

Seawater Temp:
80F

Air Temp:
78F

Loadout:
~105 gallons of gas at the time of data taking
28 gallons of water (full)
0 gallons of waste (empty)
4 adults and 4 children on board
Heavy loadout (IMO) due to plans on overnighting

Generator Status: Running (although I don't think any of these numbers would change if it were not running)

All of this data was gathered off of my Smartcraft gauges and System View at the helm.
