Official 320 Dancer Thread

There are no "sensors" to add unless you want to put in the Smartcraft depth transducer. The engines are Smartcraft enabled. Most of the parts can be found on eBay or from fpmarine.com - if you go the SC1000 route, be sure they all have the same software version. One hard to get part now may be the helm panel - the SC1000 gauges won't fit in the existing panel. I was able to get one from SeaRay - the 320 and 340 use the same panel. There are more details here on the site, use the search function to find them all.

Almost forgot - it's unlikely engines from 2003 will work with the VesselView display. You will likely be limited to the SC1000 gauges and / or the SC5000 display. Check with Mercury to be sure, they can tell based on your engine serial numbers.

All in all, it's pretty easy and well worth it IMHO.

I need to know the APPROXIMATE height in the engine room of a 320 sundancer from the stringers to the bottom of the engine hatch closed. Plus or minus 3 inches is fine at this point. Thanks

I have a 2006 320 with a Kohler 5ECW generator, does anyone hate this thing as much as me? I have had nothing but trouble since day one out of it. I have contacted Kohler about all the issues ton see if they would give me a credit toward a purchasing the new 5EKD generator but no response! I am to the point of just purchasing a new generator, any suggestions on another brand? Also, has anyone ever upgraded to a 7.5 kw generator in a 320 before?

I have had issues with mine - but now have learned the system fairly well. Mine has had the catalytic converter replaced under warranty. The 5ecd is really sensitive to proper water flow. Once I learned that it has been much better. What I found is the little elbow off the sea cock gets clogged easily and limits water flow and leads to shut down errors. Now that I know that it has been a better experience.

I have a sundancer 320 year 2002, i bought it last year, it came with the original generator westerbeke ( red color). I have now 1.5 years with my boat and my generator always worked perfect, never a problem, always start perfect and super silent, all my friens said is so quiet even at night that is impossible to hear it. I will recomend it to you, i am super happy with this generator.
I hope this information can help you

My instrument panel is not working properly, the temperature on the port Engine shows 185, my mechanical put the compuetr and the pistol and the correct temperature is 165 wich is ok, also the rpm gauges are not reading properly the corrct rpm, i believe the gauges are not working fine, also the engine Port gauge the hours say "error", the hous in starboard is fine. Do i need to change all the Gauges, or is any sensor that i need to replace in the Instrument Panel. Do searay sells the entire panel with all the gauges already installed?
Des anyone has the same problem? I already changed the small 2 panels on the Left and the right side, i bought it directly from MarineMax in Miami.
Sometimes i have to tap the rpm gauge to show the engine rpm,
What to do?

Corrosion builds up on the contacts on the gauges - you need to exercise the switches on the back of the gauges - make sure you return it to the same position of a 8 cylinder engine - this will clean the corrosion. The hour meter - I am not sure this will fix that.

Thank you for your response
I will try that this weekend to see it works

Hi All i have a 320 Sundancer 2004 bought it in the states and shipped it to Australia trying to change the tank on my fire suppression system from the Halon product any advice would be appreciated.

No experience with changing the tank. It should be fairly straight forward. Congratulations on the new boat. Any pictures? The 320 doesn't seem to have any major issues. Our 2007 has just under 300 hours on it.

Okay, I have my eye on a 2007 320 Sundancer at my local dealership. It has 350 MPI Horizon engines. In trying to research the Horizon engines I've found some posts where they corrode faster than expected. Being on the Puget Sound and mooring in salt water that has me concerned. Anyone else experience that?

Hope to join the 320 ranks very soon!

What do you mean by corroding? The exhaust manifolds? At 5 years that is typical for replacement in salt water.

Is this boat fresh water cooled with V Drives? If not, being in salt water, you might want to consider another 320. If you can't find another one closer to home, my 2006 320 with 6.2Ls that I traded in is still available from Munson Ski and Marine in Lakemoor, IL and has both of these features. Good luck.

I have never heard of horizon mpi's corroding faster than any other motor, mine are 8 yrs old and look and run great , they run at about 175* oil pressure is great. Pretty easy to maintain, i love em.

I agree with Frozen in Salt - the 350 Mag is a great motor and the Horizons are even better. I would have zero concern with a 320 with any motor combo. Ultimately the 320 runs great with good props and a clean bottom. There are a lot of misconceptions on salt water boats. Mine is 100% freshwater and well maintained - but there are plenty of great salt water boats.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully the deal works out soon. I am looking forward to moving up to a bigger boat. :)

Just before winter hit, I sold my 2007 260 DA and have been shopping for a 320 since:smt038. Well I finally found one and will be getting it Surveyed next Sat which from what I could see, there should be no surprises (I hope).

The boat looks great, Black Hull, hard top soft top option, 6.2Ls, Gene, upgraded stereo, etc... I already have a list of what needs to be done and the isinglass is at the top of the list. It's not in the best shape and most likely, I will replace it.

On my 260, I had the camper option so with all the canvas up, I had screens and plenty of air flow when using it. From what I can see, including the one I am about to purchase, not many 320s have a camper option and just have an aft curtain. I boat on the south shore of Long Island and there have been plenty of times where I have used the camper canvas, whether it was rain, wind, bugs, or whatever else.

I was looking to get some info on what everyone does if it's necessary to put up the canvas while enjoying the boat. What do you do for air flow? Do alot of guys have the U glass for the front windows? Should I get a screen on the aft window?

Any feedback, thoughts, past experiences, and ways others have been enjoying there's when the canvas time has been called would be greatly appreciated.

Any other advice for the boat, always appreciated.

Thanks again and very happy to be joining the 320 club!!! As long as all goes well :smt101

welcome to the 320 club! what year did you get? are they inboards? It's a great boat, so I hope it gives you plenty of enjoyment!
