Official 390 E.C. Thread

We have a very similar canvas setup as in the image on the top. The windshield extension has zippers at the top and the middle, but where it is attached to the windshield frame we have "buttons". I think it would be better to have zippers all around the extension, provided they are water proof.

Tell us about visibility! Please

This looks like what I had done to the canvas on mine. Only difference I went to a longer what is called sun extension from the radar bar back. That way all that is needed is a back drop from the end of the sun extension to the transom with no additional tubing on the sides. The back drop is still at an angle to shed water. At the windshield the isinglass is a three piece zipped to the canvas and snapped to the windshield. I also had a canvas one piece made up to zip and snap in place of the front isinglass when the boat is at the dock. It is a lot easier to put up and down the front canvas piece then the three piece isinglass.

If you are tired with your snap buttons, consider these... I have put them on the windshield and now fitting the canvas is a piece of cake!

View attachment 30006Well, I finally got it made!! If all goes well, I will have it installed this w/e and I will send pics. I was initially inspired by Pietro's tab, but I made it to Doug's specs from 390x ... thanx Doug ... I will let you know how it works out. I had it anodized as well. Is that big enough? Can everybody see it OK?

That trim tab turned out awesome! Do you still have the specs for that? I would love to add this to my list of projects for the fall.

question on boarding ladders.

It seems where ever I go to dock, the docks are too high for me to board from the swim platform or its a big step down coming off the ladder from inside to the dock. Has anyone done anything with boarding ladders on either the port or starboard side to me getting on and off a bit easier?

Thought about carrying along one of those big steps but would like to not have to use space for one of those if I can avoid it.

thanks!

I was having this very same discussion on our last trip. It was cool and rainy but I had to leave the top canvas open so I can drive the boat. Our canvas allows me to unsnap it from the windshield and roll it back a few feet then its fitted with a zipper that runs side to side and I can roll and zip it up giving me an opening to stand in. Nice on a warm sunny day! Unfortunately being 6'2" when I sit on the seat, I am too looking directly at the windshield frame and have to scrunch down to see out the windshield. A lot uncomfortable on a long ride.

I was looking to see about bringing the canvas straight back from the radar arch to the windshield and then strait down from there with removable isinglass.

anyone have any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

I saw this one for sale and liked the canvas but was too boxy and did not follow the rake of the windsheild so I modified the image in the second one.

I like the way he can unzip the windsheild extension and let the air in. I also plan on a zippered hatch so I can stand up fully and look out.

I like the way the helm is done on this too! I keep looking for ideas as I have the original helm still in there!

Overall the visibility is not so bad, but in rough weather, since there are no wipers on the plastic see-through part, it will get salty quite quickly.

All sides can be rolled up, which is fine at a dock but at sea they swing back and forth quite a bit.

As to the buttons, I'm definitely going to have a look at Pietro's suggestion, thanks!

A question: What do you guys do when the weather gets really rough - do you take the canvas down? I've been boating a couple of times when it's been a bit too windy, and the frame of the canvas system seems to take some punishment. It seems pretty well made, but I'm still a bit worried about strong winds.

Nice looking canvas! Would love to have something like that.

I have a quick question for you guys. I leave my bilge blower's on all the time as I'm typically cruising at 7-8 MPH and I'm not sure if that is sufficient to vent on it's own? Is there a minimal speed for that?

Also my blowers stopped working this weekend, first time replacing them. I ordered a 4inch and 3inch per my manual. I know they're bad since I can tap them with a wrench and they will turn on for a few seconds them stop. They're in a bear of a spot to get to. Any suggestions for getting them out?

well, with 3 women on the boat over fourth of July weekend, looks like the vacuflush has died! Does anyone know the model number thats in the the 390EC? I either need to replace or rebuild.

Thanks!

Has anyone Replaced the fuel tank sending unit on the starboard side. Is there a way to replace it with out pulling the tank?

What is it doing or not doing? There is not much to the actual toilet. It is most likely something else like the vacuum chamber or switch, etc

I would love to talk with you. I just inherited my dad's 1988 390 express cruiser. It is in much better condition than the one you have restored. I'm so impressed with the work you have done.
We are currently working on the capt station and have the same underlying rott issues you encountered. Would love to see how you did the rebuilding of them.
The other is the dash. My dash is cracked as your was. I love what you did.
I couldn't find your email on the website. If you could email me I hope we can connect.

If you are referring to the Florida Based 390 EC restoration project please post your questions on my thread. I prefer to share knowledge with everyone.

It turned out great! Is there any chance I could get a copy of those specs you used to make this tab?
