Official 390 E.C. Thread

Dr. Microchip,

saw in your photo gallery, the work you did not replacing the shower sump. Can you let me know where you purchased the replacement sump pump assembly ? It would be nice to get one that matches and lines up correctly. I would like to replace the entire assembly.

thank you!

The pump is just a Rule bilge pump. I rebuilt the entire sump, new cover, hoses, hose connections, wiring. Make sure all wiring connections are OUTSIDE the box!

May I suggest that you have a look at the grey waste tank from Whale Marine?

It’s sealed, pump is external and of diaphragm type, switch is solid state. And no filters to clog, the Gulper pump handles everything including hair. Just get a spare pump and a spare switch and you are ready for the ocean!

I have installed this set up three season ago and never got problem!

Using a diaphragm pump is probably a wise idea. Definitely hair friendly. Especially for those Italians who have lots of hair!!:smt101 I used SS wing nuts on the cover of the sump to make it easy to access the pump for repair and cleaning.

thank you all for the advice! I will definitely look at the waste tank from whale.

Dr. Microchip, I was not sure if you purchased an entire new unit or just rebuilt the existing reservoir. It looks like the prior owner of my boat rebuilt it also but he used some sort of dish pan and cut holes in it for hose connections then sealed it with that plastic type putty ( not sure the name of it). Then apparently the one hose that runs back to the forward bilge came off and every time someone took a shower, water was leaking out and I did not catch it right away. It was filling that center storage area in the salon with water. Even then I did not see the fact that it was the sump. Found that issue quite by accident. but at least I know where the water came from.

again, thanks for all the assistance!

Another good idea (mine ) is to add a simple water alarm. It's cheap, battery operated and it will ring if some water is flooding your boat interiors.

when i had my water tank out i had to remove the sub floor and wet foam. I used 5200 and glued down an auto bilge pump.

to quote Pietro " it all starts at the water tank!!!"

Hi guys

I have my 390 for almost a year now and learned a lot about it. I have heard all the stories about the tambers in the doors. I never understood what you guys were talking about. I don't have them. Were they an option or did the PO made some upgrades. I also have a cabinet under the counter instead if the two stools.

Saverio, it looks like your tambour doors problem was solved much before the birth of this forum!

Thanks Pirtro
I have none at all. Even in the head. The cabinet doors are curved. It's such a professions job.
Thats why thought its factory.

Hey Ken how r u?
i searched amazon looks to be 240 each. Thinking of pulling the trigger on them. Going for a haul out at end of month. Was going to add second set of tabs with indicators and replace packing or go to dripless

Saverio

All is well here Saverio. On previous boats, I found Teflon packing far better than the graphite product. It lasted longer and there was a lot less friction involved on the shafts after tightening the nuts down to make the proper seal. In the end, it is always a matter of choice.

Good to hear all is well.
I had the boat a little over a year now and must have made three revolution on the packing nut allready so i'm assuming theirs nothing left

If you have made that many adjustments to your stuffing boxes, then you are probably overdue. You don't have to pull the boat to change the packing Saverio. Just have everything ready and work fast. It will get a bit wet, but that is what bilge pumps are for.

Did it in the water with my 30. Just don't know packing size I want to get it before I take it all apart. Plus it's easier to make adjustments while in water. I'm curious on the drip less where does the water line go to and what is it for. I'm assuming keeping the seal cooled ?
