Official 400EC thread

We usually go up to the bow via the port side as the starboard has the air horns and shore power connections. We also have the full enclosure and leave the Bimini top up.

This was the question I had, but didn't know how to ask. I'm going to order a step ladder for gunwale access, but now only for the port side. Mostly never do I go forward on starboard side, as the third time I kicked the horns I learned to avoid that route. I'm quick like that.

I presume you do not have the cockpit step:

It mounts into brackets on the sidewall and is removeable.
I do not know if any remain available or if you can find anything similar.

PS - we have all kicked the horns more than once. Always fun when barefoot ;):)

It is time to replace all 5 batteries. Looking for any information or learning experience from the group as it pertains to DP (dual purpose), DC (deep cycle) or SS (starting service). Im looking at replace existing batteries, Duracell with Deka. Would like to go from a 27 to a 31 wet flood cell to an AGM type (maintenance free) . My thoughts currently are to go DP on the three starboard group and on the gen/house - port side with DC... Any experiences/help would be appreciated ..

Dual Purpose for at least the port and starboard banks. The generator could be starting but I'd go also dual purpose on that also to ensure the 3 bank charger completes not only the bulk charge but more importantly the absorption. There isn't a big difference between Gp 27 and Gp 31 other than a greater CCA and slightly larger Ah rating. I'd stay with Gp 27 as they are smaller. AGM's are great but they cost about 3 times the lead acid; are they worth it? I think so because in the DA and EC boats they are hard to get to for servicing. As an alternative you could install a couple of 8D's and a Gp 27 generator battery which would simplify the wiring - that is if you were going to replace the wiring....

Thank you for the in-site and quick response

San Souci,
I put in Group 31s for the port and starboard and a Group 27 for the generator. So far, so good for me. I like the idea of the 8-D but space is an issue If you do not have the spare props on the port side, you might be able to get one forward of the generator starting battery, but will likely need to build a base and box for it.
Also, do you have the original charger or was it replaced? If it is original, I would suggest replacing it so that it charges AGMs properly if you go that route.

Have the boat out of the water for maintenance and repairs. While I have it out, I'm trying to clean off some of the discoloration on the hull but not having much luck.

Have hit it repeatedly with Starbrite hull cleaner but no change. Any ideas how to remove?

Try Marykate on off hull cleaner. Its a bit more acid than your standard star brite cleaner.

We had to do a little light sanding and buffing to get ours out... Then we added these drip guards from Amazon and they work GREAT! I was worried about the adhesive, but so far not the slightest hint of coming loose, even when I hit it with a hose during washdown.

That's a great idea. Once I get it off, don't want to go through this again

This week, the 2000 NMEA backbone goes in and installation of the new Garmin displays......will post photos when done. Then on to the installation of all new cockpit interior.

Sorry for the poor photography.

no luck finding new series V switches so the old ones will have to do till I find some...apparently a supply chain shortage in effect.
