Installing starlink gen 3 on the hardtop so I don’t have to worry about connection at our marina or others when traveling.
Will post pics when complete.
Has anyone done this?

Yes ….I can’t remember who but someone did a full install with a custom plastic printed mount….. try searching.
but I have to ask why?…. I did T-Mobiles home internet on the boat last year for $55/month. We used it all over Erie and St Clair with zero issues. I can also turn it off in the winter….they still charge you $10/month….. but I kept it going and use it at an apartment I have…might be an alternative over the expense of the Starlink

I had Starlink installed on our hardtop last winter and it worked flawlessly all summer. The advantage for us is that we had connectivity in the most remote areas of the North Channel and in the middle of Lake Michigan where cellular hotspots do not have signal. As nice as it is to be ”off-grid” the safety factor of having connection provides for peace of mind. You can also turn the service off while the boat is in layup. This winter we pulled the KVH dome off and canceled the direct TV service and won’t miss that a bit.

Working remotely has its advantages and the mobile packs you talk about are horrible even at our marina let alone while traveling or at other marinas or out on the hook.

Looks good and hardly noticeable, thank you.

I wish I could get rid of the direct t v but since I live on the boat it is my only source of t v, I get I could stream stuff but that has a cost to it as well.

May I ask:

1) What kind of mount is that?
2) Do you have the mobile RV package?
3) How was performance underway? Everything I have read says it cuts out at 8 knots.
4) Did it work offshore in Lake Michigan when the Starlink map shows you are out of their service area?

I did away with DIRECTV on my 460, and the previous owner of my 510 also did away with the Tracvision dome, thankfully. We have great wi-fi service at our harbor but I did install a booster wi-fi antenna on the boat so we have our own network. It works great!!

We only had DIRECTV at the house because we needed it for the boat. Once we got rid of the boat's needs, we cancelled it at the house as well. Now we stream You tube TV and it is way better than DTV. No issues during rainstorms!! LOL

That being said, we can't watch TV while cruising to Mac Island anymore, but some great tunes on a solid stereo system suffices just fine. In a worst case (must have TV) scenario, we can mirror our phones tv signal to the big screen if necessary. :) We have solid cell service the entire journey.

We stream YouTube TV at home and on the boat and it gets us the main channels that are worth watching. Most of the streaming services along with Direct TV get you 900 channels that are absolutely worthless and a handful of channels you actually watch.

Yes it’s the RV package. So far I haven't found a place it doesn’t work and haven‘t had issues with performance cruising up to 26Kts.

We installed Starlink the movement it came available for our region.
You have very very poor cell service at our lake. Now with Starlink we have service everywhere when we have signal from Starlink and underway has not been an issue.
Service has been great and internet speed stays strong as long as we have north facing visibility.
I wish we could go with the horizontal mount, but we had to keep ours vertical with the original amount because of the high walls at Lake Powell.
You can timeout your service when not at the boat and you are not charged until you log back in.

All three smart tvs work great with all streaming platforms. When too ditch the dome and DIRECTV.

That’s great but don’t you pay for you tube T V also?

We do.
The upside is that we can have up to 6 tv's on at the same time in different locations so our boys get to use it in S. Carolina to watch our local sports if needed. In your own home, there isn't a limit to how many TV's can be on at the same time and all on different channels. (The Admiral handles these details, so I am sure it isn't an infinite amount of TV's but I know it's a lot. LOL)

Hey - just to clarify, he wasn't talking about the mobile packs/ hot spots. My dad is running the Verizon whole home 5G internet box on his boat and it works great. Much stronger than a mobile hotspot, more cost-effective than starlink (and without the semi-permanent hardware installation required), and works all around the lake, NCYC, etc. It doesn't work underway, like Starlink would, but he even had full connectivity at Maumee Bay last summer. For $35/ mo, that's the route I will probably end up going this summer.

That’s awesome and glad it is working out for him and hoping same for you.

You guys are being pretty critical of my T-mobile Whole house 5G…. On Catawba in ohio….at the marina the internet is useless my AT&T hotspot is useless… I have a couple boat neighbors tell me to get T-mobile 5G …… not like you guys they were nice. It worked great….took is to Sandusky and the islands and it worked perfect. Then I took it to work in Brighton Michigan….perfect again…took it to my apartment because my landlord has the worst internet ever…. I used it all winter not a single issue. Then I took it to the house in Indy and again it worked perfect….. so I have to go around saying it’s worth every penny in my world.

Hey Blue, No hate here. My business depends on mobile hotspots for our field managers and it works perfectly for that purpose. The Starlink just ensures I have connectivity on the boat in those rare remote areas where cell service is absent. I hate that we need to be connected all the time but it allows us to spend more time on board.

I hope that what I am saying isn’t coming across as that or that your referring to me, I am completely for the least expensive thing to get the job done but with a job dependent on having a connection at all times while working I couldn’t take a chance at not having something work.
We have had a few experiences while traveling that had us farther away from the internet source for a booster to work and even a jet pack type device so I chose the starlink to make sure we have what we need.
Again I apologize if anything I have written has came across other then asking for advice and help and at same time offering my help and experiences.

Finally finished the swim platform extension..
