Oil Capacity

What if the oil capacity for 7.4 MPI Mercruisers?
My memory says 6 quarts> Also do you fog an MPI and if so HOW?:huh:

It is greater than 6 quarts but good luck getting all of it out. Lots of discussions around here about fogging fuel injected engines and whether or not it's necessary. Some have removed the fuel filter, put some fogging oil or motor oil or marvel mystery oil in there, put it back on and started up.

Fogging MPI/EFI Motors? No - fogging can clog injectors according to my local merc. tech.

Merc manual and the Seloc manual both say:

Remove screw on fuel filter/water separator.
Drain some fuel; then add approximately 2-3 oz. of Mercury 2 cycle oil to the filter.
Reinstall and run engine until visible "smoke" can be seen in exhaust.
Shutdown motor.
Remove and discard oil filter using proper disposal techniques per local authorities....etc..etc.
Install new filter.
Do not restart until spring.



This becomes a little tricky when also trying to fill the cooling system with antifreeze or in my case the raw side of the heat exchanger - as you don't want to restart the motor to ingest more antifreeze once the oil is in the cylinders.
