I have a 93 SkiRay Spitfire 185 (the blue one) with the MerCruiser Tournament 350 engine and I need to change the oil.

Is the only way to drain the oil is by using an oil extractor and putting the tube down the oil dip stick tube and sucking it out?

thank-you!

Yes, unless you have the hose attached to the oil pan drain plug hole and either suck it out from there, or pull the hose thru drain plug in transom and drain into a container. I would reach under engine / look around to see if there 1/4" ID hose lurking somewhere with a brass plug / cap on the end of it doing nothing. If you have one, see if it is attached to the oil pan. If you do, voila.

The secret to all this sucking / draining thru a hose is to warm the engine first. Not hot, but warm, and remove the oil fill cap. Improves the oil flow 1,000%.

Some of the Mercruiser dipstick tubes have a connection on them, for like for a garden hose. Attach garden hose adapter to vacuum pump hose and let er rip.

Personally, I use an air powered vacuum pump and I have just attached the vacuum pump's hose over the dipstick tube and clamped, then pump. Only takes about 3-4 minutes to pump out and leaves zero mess when finished. One of this winters projects is to attach the hose to the oil pan on my 7.4.

can you link the pump you have please? I see so many, but cant tell if they would fit on the dipstick.

my dipstick does have the garden hose 3/4" screw on adapter thing. Do you have a link to an adapter that fits on here and connects to a vacuum pump?

I got a "EWK 6.5L Pneumatic/Manual Oil Extractor Pump" off Amazon (link is too big for here). Should have gotten the 9 qt one. The 6.5 is under 80 bux and if you have air available, it is stupid simple. None of them have a garden hose adapter, just 3 or 4 different diameter tubes.

The 6.5 needs to be emptied once prior to getting rest out. But it's a small price to pay.

Just find a piece of plastic tubing to fit over the 3/8" nipple (or what ever size it is) that dipstick fits in (on top of garden hose adapter) and the large hose in pump kit. If you use the garden hose adapter, it makes a mess when disconnecting, as about 3 tablespoons of oil sit in there after pumping. Hose on dipstick tube, not a drop.

ah ok, nice, it's more than double here in Canada, maybe i can find an alternative. Good point about the garden hose adapter making a mess, i'll measure the OD of the dipstick and just get a hose to wrap around it tightly.

what do you think about those 12v oil extraction pumps?
