Got It winterized by some guy last season and now the oil filter won't budge, guess he didn't put oil on the ring.

Anyone has any tips?

Edit: Spelling

Got It Off, Thank You EVERYONE!!

Try to get two filter wrenches on it - double the torque may work. I don't know how your access is on the 4.3, but that usually works...

Stee - The one time I had to "screwdriver" one, I ended up having to rip the entire canister off and use an air chisel on the base of the filter (5.7 Chevy truck).

I hate it when mechanics don't oil them or tighten them more than 3/4 turn after contact.

Yeah...I've only done it one time but it worked. Quite brutal...though also therapeutic :)

I have a few different oil filter wrenches. When I have a tough one I have one that is basically a big pair of plyers with curved "claws" - yet to run across a filter I could not get off. Problem with the screwdriver method is 1 it makes a mess and 2 you can just tear the filter up and have nothing but the base left - then you are just screwed.

Anyone who tightens a filter more than hand tight just doesn't know what they are doing.

Just a thought, if you have a remote filter it may be easier to just remove the assembly and figure it out on the bench rather than making a mess in the bilge.

Just a silly reminder if it is remote oil filter ,it’s The opposite ( left tight ,right loose ) I have made that mistake more than once ..

Joey - mine were remote upside down on my 340, but it was still CCW to loosen and CW to tighten...

Looking at it upside down ? From the top it’s CW to loosen.. right?

Clean the surface with acetone.
Put a few rounds of duct tape or, if you have it, one round of skateboard tape around the filter.
Use your regular band-type oil filter wrench.
The tape will give you much better friction on the wrench.
I did this last month because both of mine were insanely tight. My arms were sore after getting them off. But it worked.

I was looking at it from the perspective of the bottom of the filter... your drawing is correct viewing from the top. It's the old "lefty loosen, righty tighty"...
