Pulled the sending unit on my 2000 350 mercruiser. The bushing came out with the sending unit. I’ can’t get the bushing threads to catch when trying to reinstall. I’ve even separated the bushing from the sending unit.

Anyone have and tips? I don’t think I crossed threaded it.

It should just go right back in. It's at a weird angle so maybe you're just not lining it up correctly. Otherwise, those threads look good - it's unlikely you damaged the block threads doing things by hand but unless there's some debris gumming things up, the only other thing it could be is those threads... in which case you'll need to chase the threads.

Thanks.

I wanted to reply and hopefully this will give you a good laugh. I went to the boat last night before our marina meeting. I took another look at the block this time using a camera so I can actually see what I’m trying to thread the bushing into. To my surprise there are two holes…. (Insert laugh). I believe I was trying to put it into the wrong hole. I’m working the next few days, I’ll be back there Sunday morning to try the right hole.
