While out on the laketoday, I thought the oil pressure gauge was showing high readings. It was at about 40 at idle/no wake speed, which is pretty normal, but when I got up on plane and was cruising at around 3000-3500 RPM the gauge jumped up to around 65-70. That seemed higher than it normally is. So is that too high, or am I just not remembering correctly? It's a 2008 Merc 5.0L TKS. If it is high, what could be causing the sudden jump?

that is tad higher than normal service manual has 25 to 70 psi at 2500 rpm.. I would not worry about it unles it starts getting higher try new fuel filter could be restricted or bypass is not working correctly..

not sure if a new fuel filter will affect oil pressure ;-)

depending of what oil you have your pressures are correct for a (nearly) cold engine. whith hot engine ( oil fully warm ) it seems a little high.

A few months ago my issue was quite the opposite.... 40 PSI at idle and 5 PSI at high RPM. Turned out to be a bad electrical connection in the pressure sensor... Have a look at it, maybe the issue is there.
