Omicron, the sequel

I did ask more questions while at the hospital yesterday. Found out little except that they are short staffed...how much and where I don't know. Makes me wonder if they're able to provide as many beds, guess it depends on where they're short.

The virus got into my Aunt's assisted living facility, 5 positive staff, and now she has tested positive, she turned 99 on 1/4. I don't know how many other residents might be. She's locked down in her apartment for awhile, says she doesn't feel sick.

She's a tough little thing, the virus probably won't get her but if she knew her rent went up 113% in the last 18 months she'd likely have a heart attack.

You're right. The sitting around wondering if you're going to be the one who dies is the worst part of the Covid. They have got us psychologically wiped out. Temp, pulse ox, temp again, pulse ox. Cough. Pee. Better check that temp and pulse ox. I actually feel ok, but I better check the pulse ox again. Temp again, does this damn thing even work? Cough, Cough. Rut rhoo -- call 911 I am going to die. Oh wait, that was just some popcorn I had stuck in my throat. Rinse and repeat. :)

Golfman...

Thanks for posting this. I really thought going crazy for a day or two. I agree they do have us psychologically wiped out.

I start each day saying I am not going to listen or buy into the BS anymore. This is just like 2008 and what the media did to our economy and our minds !

The masses (sheep) thought the vax would save them. It isn't. Deaths are higher post vax than pre vax.
Except...it's the unvaccinated doing the overwhelming majority of the dying.
Indiana data:

Death rate from covid for unvaccinated is consistently 5+ times the rate of the vaccinated in this state. The gap appears to be accelerating during the omicron surge.

Last night I had high fever and chills so bad my teeth became loose.
High fever
No sinus
No headache
No cough
I can smell and taste
Today still got the chills and shivers.

I expect this is a cold/flu so not testing but will stay away from family till fever brakes.
Cap,

I was the same. Lost the sense of smell almost 5 days in. By then the fever and chills were gone. Tested (positive) as a requirement for a procedure I was having. Was normal in 7 days.

How can that be. They have told us omicron isn’t as deadly.

Don't forget, those deaths include those recently vaccinated....

While omicron seems to be less deadly overall, it seems like the data is saying it may be much less deadly for the vaccinated, but perhaps more deadly for the unvaccinated.

You are assuming they are dying from omicron. Still lots of delta around that is killing people as well.

Two side effects that are beginning to emerge are loss of attention span and memory decline for as long as 8 months after becoming symptomatic. Does not seem to correlate with severe illness or mild symptoms, just having had the omicron variety.

Nope, that's not what they said. They made no distinction.

"I have never seen a vaccine that forced me to wear a mask.

I have never seen a vaccine that required me to maintain my social distance.

I have never heard of a vaccine that spreads the virus even after vaccination.

I had never heard of rewards, discounts, incentives to get vaccinated.

I never saw discrimination for those who didn't get a vaccination.

I have never seen a vaccine that threatens the relationship between family, colleagues and friends.

I have never seen a vaccine used to threaten livelihoods, work or school.

I have never seen a vaccine that would allow a 12-year-old to override parental consent.

I have never seen a vaccine like this one, which discriminates, divides and judges society.

As the social fabric tightens, we realize it is a powerful vaccine!

It does all these things except IMMUNIZATION."

How Mild Is Omicron Really?
Early reports that Omicron causes less-severe disease than Delta seem to be borne out, but it’s not yet clear to what extent that’s due to the variant itself versus the populations it’s infecting.
“I think it’s pretty clear Omicron causes less severe disease than the Delta variant, but that’s not saying much,” University of Western Australia epidemiologist and biostatistician Zoë Hyde writes in an email to The Scientist. “We know that Delta was more than twice as severe as the original strain, and if Imperial College is right to say that Omicron is about 40-45% less likely to put people in hospital [than Delta was], we’re back to 2020 but with a more contagious strain.”

I would be wary of listening to They and assuming it was the final word. Omicron is still less than 2 months old and the knowledge base gets broader every day. The two places where most of the data is coming from, South Africa and the U.K., have very different population profiles than the U.S. Even the emerging data from the U.S. experience is from much more highly vaccinated areas than some that are just starting to see omicron.

You're right. We didn't have much of delta wave around here and I forgot it was raging in some places just a few weeks ago.

Step-sons girlriend just texted that she got results back and came back positive. She had to drive 45 minutes to get an appt. She got some serious issue in december that could have killed her and according to her caused permanent irreversible damage. Forget what it was but it was a GI issue and the meds they gave her had known, rare side effects and she got the side effect. And she is not vaxxed. hmmm...do you blame her after the side effects of the recent meds?
Anyway, we were all together Saturday then she said Sunday night she started feeling sick and woke up Monday feeling pretty bad so got tested. Got the results back today. She said her immune system is probably pretty weak due to everything she went through in December. I guess her aunt is an RN and she called her and she told her to take zinc so i just ran to CVS and bought some zinc cold meds and dropped them off to her. I did a ding-dong-ditch...lol. Set everything on the porch hit the doorbell and ran...lol
