One perspective on the current used boat market

Good article on "How not to sell a boat." What a great idea! Tell everyone how desperate you are to get rid of it. That you'll take any offer, no matter how ridiculous. These guys are geniuses! It's no wonder they're captains of industry!

Good job of talking to the boston globe. Nothing like pouring some gasoline on the fire. You just know that the reporter is there to help you and not make things worse. Right? Right?!

Best regards,

"But last year, he said, he paid $2,000 for his slip and barely used the boat at all. With gas prices hovering around $4 a gallon last summer, Eldoueihi said a full tank of gas cost him "one week's pay" - or roughly $600 - way too much for him to swallow."

Not trying to be mean, but someone who makes $600/week and 3 kids maybe shouldnt have boating as a hobby?

I really didnt mean it the way it sounds, but really...boating is one of the more expensive hobbies to take up. If you are making $600 week, and have 3 kids, it just isnt something I can see spending so much money on? No wonder people have to bail out of stuff like this. Borderline affording it to begin with.
Of course, his wife could be a neurosurgeon and throw off all my calculations :smt001

I had the exact same thought...Just didn't want to put words to it and have eveyone think I'm an a$$, being new to the forum and all!:smt043 Back when I was making $600/week, gas was $0.89/gallon and buying a boat never occured to me...feeding my kids did though!

Bill, I know what you mean. I'm just poking a little fun at some of the comments made at a Diesel thread.

:smt001 On this site? Is it worth a good read?

Well, there were periods when I was younger, and I didnt have much fiscal responsibility.

I doubt that it's just the guys with small incomes that have pushed the line and now while reflecting say "sh_t".

Oh no doubt. I know of some "wealthy" people who if the furnace went tomorrow they would probably be putting it on a credit card to fix.

. . . .well I would put it on a credit card as well. Along with lunch, and bubble gum from the local CVS.

The difference is I pay the bill in full when it comes. . .and the card provides a 1% rebate on all purchases.

Many people today simply do not understand the implications of "no reserve" and "debt".

Pay attention, Gary! You might learn something.

Just what, I'm not sure.
