I recently purchased a 1979 15' Whaler with a 40 HP on it to do a restore on. I am coming along nicely but I am stumped on what color to wrap the hull with.

Here is the boat in my garage "in process"

I would really like to do a color on the hull, I am thinking Navy Blue, Pale Yellow, Light Blue, Or Gray.

Heres some samples of the colors, I think the Navy will look best with the desert tan color of the interior.

I was looking at the picture of the boat in your garage. It looks like the boat is on a roller trailer. Aren't Whalers supposed to be trailered on bunks because of the way the hulls are built?

On the colors, I'm kind of a purist as well. I'd stick with the original hull color. We see a lot of whalers here that have the insides painted a light blue.

I like the dark blue but a deep forrest green might look cool too

I would stick with the white to if restoring, but lets have fun and thats what you are asking.........Because you will trailer washing the boat is easy and a dark hull keeping it clean is not an issue like a 50 footer..........I like the navy blue.......The other colors are not as dramatic......Why not do it Pink and bring attention to Cancer (breast)? Just my thoughts!

Since your Explorer is blue, I would match the car... It look cool when you pull up to a boat ramp when the boat matches the car...

Heres my 2 cents....all boats are different and some look better in certain colors than others. That goes with cars as well. Certain colors IMO just don't look as good as other colors on certain vehicles. The whaler has a very thin hull profile. I just dont think it lends itself to a dark color. I'm in agreement to keep it white but if you choose another color, I would suggest keeping it on the lightest shade of thst color.

Since its going to be on a trailer for the majority of the time I think the Navy would look great. I had a 21 Regal with a blue hull as well and it wasn't bad. 15' is a whole lot different than a 40 Sea Ray!

Plus, I am going to do it in a Vinyl Wrap instead of painting. This way if somebody buys it and wants to change the color or remove it all together they can for less than $100.

Have you talked to someone about wrapping the hull? Cost? Longevity? What happen WHEN the water gets under the wrap? Warranty against such? Color fading, may or may not be an issue depending on what material is used. Wrapping below the waterline and the bottom of the hull of just above the waterline?

I own a company that does all type of wraps and I think wrapping a hull is a bad decision all around unless you are advertising and changing it every fishing season.

The boat will be used on an in and out service, the wrap would only be above the waterline similar to how a boat comes from the factory painted. The wrap will probably never be touching water for more than a few hours at a time. Worst case I am out $100.00 in vinyl. I have done this before on a smaller boat and 6 years later it still looks wonderful.
