Outdrive spews water when Muffed

The oil sucker worked this year. The oil was hot and thinner after a day of 200 watt magnetic heater on the pan. Finally worked out why flow was inconsistent and removed oil filler cap to allow crankcase to breathe. I guess I will check my PCV valve. Put that heater on a baseboard heater thermostat circuit and you wouldn't have to winterize.
You wouldn't have to winterize.... until the power goes out.

I intend to drain the block to winterize as usual. I can imagine an owner who neglected winterization but suddenly heard about an unexpected cold front coming in. This magnetic heater might be a temporary measure.

* Always put the drive all the way down on the muffs. If need be, drop the trailer tongue.

* 5 min on the muffs is sufficient to heat the oil for changing.

* Always change the oil in the Fall as part of winterization.

* Never suck oil out of the dipstick. Install a drain kit on the pan. The hose is attached to the Garboard drain plug and will come out the port as the plug is removed. Gravity removes all the sludge.

* Never put an electric heater in the bilge. (OMG)

Why never a heater Jim. I have never done it and drain my oil out hose though the transome drain plug. Curious about the heater

I'm an Engineer in charge of a Hundred Million Dollar Factory. Failure is not an option. We look at possible scenarios, even if the failure is only one in a million, and thus mitigate any possible failure modes.

Forget the factory....pfffft. The boat is in my freaking garage.

Is your heater explosion proof? The engine compartment is filled with gasoline and oil. As Harry said: "Are ya feeling lucky?"

I realize many people put open light bulbs in the bilge. Are ya kidding me? Common sense is gone.

That's my opinion. Now go and do it. You'll probably never have a problem. If you do I guarandamntee you the answer will be "I didn't know", or "I didn't think".

On another note, I omitted one point in my original post. On the muffs most of the water comes out the top of the outdrive. Same when running. The engine exhaust fumes are what comes out the prop.
