Overnighting in St. Joseph

We are planning an overnight trip from Saugatuck to St. Joseph. Can anyone recommend a marina with easy access (walking) to downtown ? Also how long / far is it from St. Joseph to Chicago ? Is there a easy place to tie up in Chicago for a few hours ? Thanks,

Hi there

There is not a nice marina in easy walking distance to downtown St. Joe. The west basin is on the north side and about a 3/4 of a mile to town. Jimmy Carolla is the Harbor Master. The St. Joseph River Yacht Club is also on that side. Harbor Isle is on the correct side but is kind of run down. If you want more info please email and I can give you whatever help you need. As far as Chicago goes, if you give Ashley a call at Du Sable Harbor they will usually let you tie up on one of the 'T' Heads for a couple of hours.
From there you can walk to Navy Pier and even some of the Downtown area along Grand Ave for restaurants.
