Yeah I know I have been the first to diss in hull depth transducers, but sticking (quite literally) a P-79 in is short money compared to a mid season haul out.

So for anybody who has installed one of these little buggers, what did you use as an adhesive? I was going to use 5200, but Airmar does not recommend epoxy based adhesives and 5200 is an enhanced for of epoxy.

For any one with a 280 where did you place your P-79?

Thanks guys

Henry

I installed a new one in my boat last winter.
After I picked the right spot:
1. Cleaned thoroughly, then scuffed surface with 150 grit sandpaper.
2. Mounted the base with clear "Boatlife Life Seal"
3. Gave the Boatlife stuff a day or so to cure and harden, then added the recommended amount of Poly Glycol anti-freeze, then installed the transducer.
Worked like a charm, and no leaks.

The P79 is great for the job it does.
We install plenty of these at BOE MARINE we generally use 4200, no problems.
Hope that helps

3m marine adhesive at home depot. Worked great for me. Sand, clean good and glue. Make sure you tape it down while it dries. It will move iforward you don't 20160612_065535.jpg20160612_065809.jpg20160612_064833.jpg

Not a 280, but I re-installed mine using 4200 as described above. 5200 is overkill. (BTW - 5200 and 4200 are polyurethane based, not epoxy. Epoxy does not stick to the plastic on the P79 well, and is brittle so cracking and leaking are likely). In terms of location, I installed mine just outside of the innermost stringer on the starboard side close to the bulkhead. The PO had installed it right on the keel line (where the glass is almost 3 inches thick) and it did not work well there at all. It works great where it is on mine and there are no through hulls in front so no disturbances to interfere. It holds bottom at all speeds.
