We've been posting several new product previews over on the Sea Ray Facebook page and I thought I'd bring several of them here for those of you who don't follow us on FB.

First, the 400 Fly:

With the large enclosed interior with weather-protected primary helm inside, if it was me, I'd leave the hardtop off of the bridge (I like the lines better, lower cost, lower center of gravity, etc)

And here's that interior:

And for the sport boat crowd, I really like the lines and practicality (and speed!) of the new 290 Sundeck OB:

And then there are some of the new SLX models, which will debut at the New York Boat Show on 1.6.16

First the 250 SLX:

And then the 280 SLX.

And for some bonus photos, check out the best pics from Sea Ray's Yacht Expo a couple weeks ago.

Hope you enjoyed a few of the pics. Happy holidays!

That 400 Fly is just a great looking boat, Thanks for posting.

Re: Picture thread! Lots of new boat previews: 400 Fly, 290 Sundeck OB, 250 SLX, 280

Putting windows below the rub rail in my opinion is not a good idea for real boats as the hull looses strength and if one ever fails you sink. We have hit some big waves both head on and at an angle that got water on the upper helm. I do not think a plexey glass window the size on the new boats would take that often before it weakened at the fastening points and eventually failed. As the Admiral (wife) said about them "They are woman boats nice at the dock but useless in bad weather"
Any one know of any blow rub rail wind failures or maintenance problems.

Is the statement regarding the windows based on observed window blow outs in weather or your personal opinion? I have them below the water line, and we took some hammerings, with no problems so far. This is a fairly commode design now. I suppose time will tell. Regarding weather, an AC, a sporty fly, and my boat included are not exactly beasts. If I was doing hard core cruising, it would be a low meta enter trawler.

Virtually every boat made today has hull side windows, so I don't think it is a problem. Also, I have seen sailboats with full size hatches in the bottom of the hull to allow someone to escaps if the boat capsizes, so if they can do that, they can make a secure above the waterline hull side window.

Learned something new. Just felt fiberglass was stronger.
On my 1982 28 footer I had plexey glass windows just above the rub rail and they checked with age, then cracked, then leaked. I replaced them with the same.
Have friend who did an Atlantic crossing in the fall on a cruise ship they had windows blow in during a storm. He sent me pictures of the boat at dock looked like they sheeted the broken windows with plywood.

Personally, I think that the 400 Fly is perfect as pictured. I'd hit it! Way out of my price range, for now...

Thanks for sharing the info and pics!

Happy Holidays!

Cheers

the biggest problem with hull side windows comes when you want to raft up to other boats. You can not let the fenders rub on the windows as it tends to scratch them/dull them .A fellow at the marina didn't no the fenders could be so rough, really messed them up. Makes it a little tougher to place fenders in correct positions.

I don't think the 400 is a Northeast boat it seems a perfect fit for warmer climates. Is there AC? Heat? If not it's a wasted space in certain climates . I personally hate open bridges as I would cook up there in the sun. And I'm not a fan of canvas Bimini for the bridge it looks like a bow rider perched atop of a cruiser.
the new fly bridge boats all look the same in my opinion. I do see an SLX in my future though I love that boat.
the hull Windows on our port stateroom is what everyone loves about that space including me. The light and view that comes through there is awesome. I actually helped a friend pull one from his boat and we had to get a special chemical to release the sealant it took us 2 days to get it out.

The scratching is a good point. I am getting some of that, and now I am more careful with them. Even washing the windowss with a deck brush can do it. It is a nice feature to let light in, especially for a cave style boat.

That last picture is a stunner. Very nice shot.

I really like the lines of the 250, 280 and 290. Nicely done SR Corporate.

Re: Picture thread! Lots of new boat previews: 400 Fly, 290 Sundeck OB, 250 SLX, 280

Very nice! The 400 Fly really hits the sweet spot between the old 36DB and 44DB. I was a fan of both those models but I have to admit the old body styles are looking dated. They're still nice but they have the swoopy look like a whale whereas the 400 Fly has a nice modern look and feel but it still says "Sea Ray".... nice job.

Re: Picture thread! Lots of new boat previews: 400 Fly, 290 Sundeck OB, 250 SLX, 280

In regards to 400...doesn't do it for me...needs the hard top. The helm station looks stupid sticking up above the wrap around window...whole thing looks kinda like a Regal

Maybe something like a clear overlay for the window? It's sometimes used on front ends of cars, sometimes right behind the wheels, too. Google 3M Clear Mask for an idea. I've only ever bought and used it in 6" wide rolls, but I'm sure it's available in larger widths. I recently saw an Audi that had it on the whole hood. When it get's ugly, peel it off and replace it.

Hmmm... What d'ya think, Matt? How feasible is it to make this available through SR? :smt001 Would enough people be interested in it to make it worthwhile?

Re: Picture thread! Lots of new boat previews: 400 Fly, 290 Sundeck OB, 250 SLX, 280

Dennis,

Thanks for the info. As you noted, it is made for cars, but has other app’s. This looks like a possible solution.

Is it the stuff in the picture below?

I sent the following email to 3M today:

I have a boat that is in saltwater all year. It has four windows, that are each about 4 sq. ft. The windows are getting scratched up, so I was looking at your product for protection. I would plan on changing it every year.

A couple questions:

Has anyone used your product for marine use to your knowledge?

Will the material leave a residue when it is pulled off, especially if it is baked in the hot sun?

Can the sheets be cut to size, to match up to the windows on my boat?

Sorry about the subject high jack. I jump on here when I can in between my work day and post. I am on vacation today, so no excuses.

I will start a new thread on the window coverings.

Re: Picture thread! Lots of new boat previews: 400 Fly, 290 Sundeck OB, 250 SLX, 280

Generally, I don't like the new styling of boats, that most of the manufacturers are building these days. I understand the why, but they don't thrill me.

That said, The 290 Sundeck OB, looks great! Now the caveat, make that hull a cruiser!!! The 370 Venture was a bad attempt, at a great idea. This hull shows that "visible" outboards are NOT bad looking. Option out with generator, a/c and windlass.....I'm in!

Re: Picture thread! Lots of new boat previews: 400 Fly, 290 Sundeck OB, 250 SLX, 280

I'm sure it looks better in person but I really miss the older cherry cabinets. The new stuff looks vaguely familiar.

Love the 290 SD OB. That's one bad a$$ looking boat!

Ha, that's funny!

But..... you change out that orange counter top to a white marble and a nice backsplash... that would be pretty darn nice looking! But, great find on the Brady kitchen!!!
