This past weekend I discovered that my port trim tab was not functioning. It was in the up position. At first I thought is was the cylinder. I called Bennett and the tech support guy said he thought it was the solenoid.

First he said I should swap the lines and see if it would move up and down from the switch at the helm. I did this and it did. The starboard tab did not.

Second he asked I put power to the solenoid to move the tab down and up in order to prove the switch was functioning. (I can give more detail if anyone is interested as to how to do this test).

This test resulted in the solution. It was neither the switch or the solenoid. It was a loose connection at the harness to the pump. With a little spread to the connector inside the harness all was fixed.

I should mention that prior to all this I confirmed the spring inside the cylinder was not bound by pushing down on the tab with my foot while in the water.

So if you have a tab in the up position that will not move with the switch check your connections first.
