I started having issues with my trim a couple of years ago. I took the boat into my mechanic and he replaced the limit switch. All was fine until this year when I began having problems with the trim down and the trim up. Raising the outdrive to the tailer position has never been a problem. I spent over 3 hours this morning cleaning all the wiring connections and as I was testing it I noticed the trim motor has a loud whine when I lower the drive. The drive failed to go down only once in several tries but with the problem being intermittent it is difficult to isolate. Anyone experience similar problems? :smt013

Can you be little more specific - I'm not completely getting what you're saying? When you try to trim down (and it doesn't work), is there a noise?

If there's no noise, I would suspect the trim solenoid - the one with the large green wire.

If the motor still makes a noise, but there's no movement, my first thought would be the plastic guides/spacers inside one of the trim cylinders has broken. If that happens, it can jam up the rod sometimes. Try removing the cylinders and see if they go in and out w/o the drive on. Also, try picking up the drive w/o the cylinders on, just for good measure.

I'm not sure about your boat but I had an older Sea Ray many boats ago and in the trim motor are some o rings that need to be replaced periodically. remove the top cap and see if there are any in there. When they wear out they loose pressure. Good luck

When I trim down there is a noise comming from the area of the pump, it sounds as though the motor is louder than normal. The sound is normal when I trim up. The failure to trim down is intermittent. I sometimes toggle the switch and it does nothing meaning no sound or movement then hit the switch again and it engages the motor and the drive goes down. When the motor makes noise there is always movement it is just louder going down than going up.
