Prop Pitch Question

Hello,

I have a 2006 240DA Sundancer with a 5.0L Bravo III. The original props that were on the boat were a 24P. While in for service work (another story for later) the dealer "mis-placed the 24P's and installed 20P's.

Question: Is this a good thing? He said that the RPM's will be about 5000 now and have a faster "hole-shot" Again,...is this a good thing or do I need to get my 24P's back?

Any comments welcomed. Thanks again.[/b]

I can't stand the noise and bright warning lights from my BS detector!............he put your props on someone else's boat.

If you like the way the boat ran previously, i.e. the boat ran up to rated rpms with your normal load, he needs to order replacement props of the correct pitch and have them FEDEXed to him so they can be on your boat by the weekend.

Misplaced your props my a$$..........................!

I don't disagree with you. The question is am I better off with the 20P's. I am SOOOO new to the 240DA that I dont have anything to compare it too. HELP

I agree, sounds like a load of BS. Aside from 24 pitch what was your original prop - aluminum or stainless? And what did he "replace" it with? If you liked the way the boat ran before and it was pulling it's rated rpm's, I'd want the original prop replaced.

I don't disagree with you. He said that I am getting a faster "hole-shot" and a few hundred extra RPM's.

What pitch are most people using on the 240DA's?

SORRY !!

Everytime I wanted to post a responce in came back and said "ERROR". Sorry for the numerous replies.

Unless your 24P props were totally wrong for the boat you will not be better off. A set of Bravo III props does not get "misplaced". Do not pay one cent until your props or brand new replacement props identical to the ones you had are back on the boat.

I have a 270 with 22p and am seriously considering going to 24p.

I would say with your boat, 20p does not seem correct.

Check the Sea Ray website as they have a prop listing somewhere.

I am with Frank on this one!

By the way, if you have the 5.0 motor, the correct pitch props are 22P not 24P.

24P props are only used on th 240DAs equipped with a 350 MAG motor. So again, you are getting misinformation from the service folks.

For your own benefit, make sure they prove to you that you have the correct pitch props when they finally straighten this out. You can also download the prop chart from Sea Ray's web site and check for yourself as well (which is what I did).
