I have 1999 Sundancer with twin 7.4 in it with velvet drives. I trying to remove the shafts to replace my cutless bearings. The shaft has dripless packing on it and shaft goes through the tramssion and has big nut on the back of collar. I was wondering if anyone new the steps or any tricks of removing this shaft. I always owned inboard/outboards boats and always done my own work. This is new to me any help would be greatly appericated.

Thx

I had my cutlass bearings done last year without removing the shafts. I hired a guy with a portable press that easily removes the bearing one half at a time and leaves the shaft in place. it then replaces the bearings in the reverse fashion. it is incredibly simple. I did not do it myself but I have heard that some shops and marina's will rent the press that allows you to do it on your own. It might be a much easier way for you to go. just a suggestion.
