I got on this anti wire brush band wagon 8 years ago when a doctor friend told me about the dangers of using a wire brush on your barbecue. Evidently the likely hood of a wire breaking off the brush and getting stuck in food is not as uncommon as you might think…. Then the food gets eaten and the wire ends up in your throat or digestive system. I was shocked.
So I made 40 of these wooden scrapers and gave them to family and friends ….. not a great pic and a prototype but basically the end is tapered and burns to the shape of your grill and works quite well…..
just a heads up…. This news article made national news last week.

Just don't clean the grill. Just kidding, I use crumpled up foil.

That happened to an adult friend of ours. My wife immediately got rid of our wire brush grill cleaners. We had one for the gas grill, one for the Treager. No more.

You can also get one of the nylon bristle heads but they only work on cold grill. When things get real grimey take grates out and blast with preasure washer.

A paint scraper also works well and is mostly what I use on my RecTeq, but mainly to scrape off drip tray

I had chicken wings one time at a bar. Luckily I was able to cough up the piece. It was the wide flat type of bristle.

Thanks - had no idea. I'll toss mine in the trash and use the foil method.

Thanks for posting @Blueone

A friend of mine had an issue with a wire from a BBQ brush about 15 years ago and I threw all mine out. I started using crumpled aluminum foil but then switched to the wooden ones from Costco similar to the one Blue made. This one is about 3 years old but they come without the notches and conform to the grill as you use them.

I also starting using these from Grill Rescue a few years ago. They do a really good job but they’ve gotten a little pricey over the years.

Blueone has the right Idea. Aluminum foil on a grill is horrible. I have something similar to his scraper but stainless steel. I have a wire brush but it has such heavy gauge wire that it barely bends, let alone fall apart. I use it when I do a complete breakdown and clean.

There are a lot of ways to die in the life we live. Peritonitis from a grill brush is not in my plans.
