PSA Personal Update

Damn guys. Thoughts and prayers are with you. As I'm turning 36 this year and reading this...getting old sucks!

But after my MIL didn't wake up at 48...I've learned while it may suck, it is a privilege's denied to many....

Being 66 now having lost 80% of my excess weight which was of the best things I could do for myself I’m so extremely fortunate to be in pretty good health. I’m thankful for the life I’ve had as well as what life I’m giving to live further. Reading your story’s make me thankful for the quality of life I have. Thank you for sharing and I wish you all good & better health in the days to come. I will follow & try to help support you guys and you will be in my thoughts & concerns.

Thanks John, I feel very fortunate for the good health I enjoy. I know the moment I open my eyes in the morning what kind of day it's going to be and thankfully the "good days" are getting "mo gooder" and more frequent than the bad days.

Though we had to sell the boat because neither of us could be at ease being on deck, we found a nice Class A diesel pusher and are looking forward to many days in our new adventure. Our plans for using it include some very short trips and at least one longer trip (over 1,000 miles) in July.

We're looking a long summer spent in Alaska next year and the following year a cross country trip to New England then down to Atlanta to see friends then to the Phoenix area to spend the winter. That cross country trip has several stops along the way to see friends and relatives.

Of course that is all dependent on how long the Big Guy up above keeps me around and lets me finish out my life in the good health I'm now in.

So far s good with my PSA numbers. While mine remain high the biopsies found nothing. My Prostrate gland is abnormally large and swollen, which is throwing my numbers out of wack. I get tested every three months from now on and they are treating the swelling.

dwna1a, that's great news. Have your docs found out why your prostate is abnormally large yet the biopsy showed nothing abnormal?

It's called benign prostatic hyperplasia. My Dad had it for years. No worries until his PSA started creeping up at age 65. Then biopsy, cancer, removal, and 9 years later radiation for PSA rising again (prostate was supposed to be gone, right?) I explained the story in GFC's original thread. Dad just couldn't pee fast even when I was a kid.

That’s great news. I wondered, did they give you a 4K blood test before doing a biopsy? Heard that it can save a lot of men from unneeded biopsies and some of their negative affects.

I don’t know what the 4K blood test is, I’m sorry. They did do more tests before the biop.

Ahh, got ya. From what I understand it measures not only your PSA but your free PSA and binding PSA along with some other sell in your blood. These are all supposed to be some sort of cancer markers and they use that in an algorithm to figure out if the cancer is aggressive vs A slow growing cancer. They use that information to determine whether or not a biopsy is a proper step for your situation. Either way, glad everything worked out for you

More worrying news to add. My numbers have continued to climb. Doc was honest, he may have missed the cancerous spot. MRI is in a few weeks and more biops. Hard not to be worried at what they might find.

Praying for you this morning and hoping this is something treatable. In the mean time keep up the faith and the fight.

Dave

Sept 2019 high PSA level redo test Nov could be a false high reading, it was not. Scheduled for one more PSA test March 2020 even higher. Biopsy scheduled April 2020. May 10th daughter calls she is 3 months pregnant with first child May 12th in office meeting with Urologist, wife and I have already seen the PSA and Biopsy results I have prostate cancer and it's aggressive an 8 on the Gleason scale. He wants to operate right away and do a radical prostatectomy. I ask if it can wait till August so we can visit or daughters in the Midwest but he says no this needs to be done now. We didn't tell anyone in the family we didn't want any news getting back to our daughter. On July 2nd 2020 I had my prostate removed the lymph nodes and some surrounding tissue.
The recovery was 25 days and on the 26th day we headed to the Midwest to see our daughters. They didn't get all the cancer according to the pathologist report but my PSA in Oct 2020 was .008 exactly what it should be for cancer free. March 2021.008 so my next test was scheduled for Oct 6 2021. I get my results from the lab on-line so I know before I see my Urologist.
Hopefully you don't have cancer and they won't remove your prostate. My Urologist is a graduate of Johns Hopkins they have great information on their website.
