Im having trouble finding my leak. I keep finding small amounts of atf below the pump. Ive changed the compression fittings so that shouldn't b a problem. I have the wife operate the tabs and i cant see a leak. Everything appears dry yet i keep finding a puddle. Where else should i check. Thanx for the help in advance!

Did you take the cover off the pump to see if the leak is coming from under there? Reservoir overfilled? Are the new compression fittings dry? (some overtighten them causing the ferrules to cock sideways and not seal) Cracked line from the pump?

acatt,

Stray Cat has some good suggestions, particularly about over filling the reservoir, the fluid should be about 1" from the top when both Trim Tabs are in the full up position.

It is possible there is a leak where the motor shaft enters the pump body, this would only occur when the pump is running and would be very slow.

Since this type of leak is on the "non-pressurized" side of the system I would like you to do a little test please. Run both Trim Tabs to the full down position and leave them there overnight. If they stay down then all of the lines and compression fittings are OK and it might be the shaf leak. If they retract on their own, then we will need to look at the lines and fittings some more.

Let me know what you find,

acatt,

If the shaft seal is leaking the fluid will drip down on top of the reservoir. It will probably leak down the back of the reservoir body. If You take the Lexan cover off the pump and use a flashlight look and see if fluid is pooling on top of the reservoir under the motor and pump body.

Tabman,
Do you have parts brakedown for V351 pump? Diagram?
My motor may have to be replaced(if I can find just the motor)

Thanks,Charlie

Charlie,
I guess you didn't see the other thread on CSR but Tabman suffered a brain aneurism recently and has been hospitalized. It will probably be a while before he is back on the forums, if he comes back at all.

NO Todd, I did not know sorry,Hope he makes out OK.
I know about medical issues. Been here at home after having Double Heart Bypass !!.

Have been out of work, can't drive for 6-8 weeks

Tell him I'm hoping for him to get better......

Thanks Charlie

Charlie,

I'm home from the hospital!

The pump cannot be replaced from the pump body, so the complete unit will need to be replaced.

Thanks Tom,
I was afraid of that as I cannot find any source for just the motor as mine is seized.
Will have to try some boat salvage yards, Is there a way to test the rest of the tabs? can I apply air to test for leaks?
Sure wish .I could adapt Merc. trim pump as I got 2 of them that work.

Glad to see your home........:).
Thanks,Charlie

Unfortunately a Merc Trim Pump cannot be adapted since it is a dual acting system and the Bennett is a single acting system.

You could use air pressure to test the lines and actuators.

Have you looked on E-Bay?

Yes I have they are on there ,but run about $200.00 USED......??? and 250.00 new.
a little "Golden" if you ask me......It's like they know ONLY that pump will work and you can't rebuild it.

Thanks,Charlie
