question about head

The key you are turning is for the discharge pump. You should have a power swith on your breaker panel to turn the head system on. When you turn the key all the way to the start position you should be discharging overboard, unless the thru hull is closed, which it supposed to be.

On my boat, the key (by the head) is also the power switch for the vacuflush system. It must be ON for the vacuum generator to work.

START position is for macerator/pump if so-equipped.

Sounds like the OP's boat is setup this way as well.

I agree, that's exactly how I understand it to work. Keyswitch on plus "head system" 12v breaker in on position.

At best you may be able to hire that gent on the TV program called "The Dirtiest Jobs" and let him do all the belching. Meanwhile, I thought the flush system is power controleld by the switch ont he electrical panel and the KEY swtich (reason for a key) is the control for the overboard maserator. I have had both, and although noisy when flushing, I prefer the electric pump toilets since soemtimes finding a leak in a vacuum system can be difficult. But then, that doesn't solve your problem. Good Luck.

My 280da I remember having the electrical panel 12v system for the head system. From there I had to have the key turned to "on" to engage the power for the vacuum system to "pressurize itself". We just always left the key in and to on. Never tried to remove the key when in the on position or not, wish I would have tried, always hated seeing that key in there, etc.

BTW, ours when the duckbill got dirty from toilet paper would not always seal thus it would keep re-pressurize itself all night and every couple minutes until the key was turned off or problem was fixed. We just had to clean the seals really good and always make sure to leave a little extra water in the bowl to prevent this. Good system, just sometimes needs a bit of cleaning around the seals.
