Not boat related but is water related. My inground pool cleaner works off a plastic impeller and plastic gears.

1-3 times a year I have to replace these and it ends up costing me about $100 every time for some dang plastic gears.

Anyone know of a way to maybe replicate these in something stronger so the teeth on them don't ware out so quickly? They are submerged in water so it has to be something that won't rust.

Delrin may be tougher, but it may cost you a pretty penny to get them replicated in Delrin. I looked at the image. Are all of the gears the same?

Is it feasible to filter, or improve the filter of the incoming water to remove any small grit that may be wearing out the gears?

There shouldn't be any grid or very little. Water flow process

From Top/Bottom drain of pool into pool pump with basket (top drain has basket as well) then into DE filter then into Clearner housing where the gears are so there shouldn't be much of anything in the water at that point.

Read something that it could be water pressure causing them to wear out quick.
