SO i am wondering what would be a sufficent replacement for the Quick Silver 3000 throttle control i currently have on my 1995 Sea Ray 3.0LX?
Has anyone ever replaced there shifter, if so what did you use, or what is compatable with mine?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Morse (maybe Teleflex) makes control boxes. There are newer versions from Merc, as well. I'd stay stick with Merc - if for nothing else, just for looks. (Quicksilver is Merc)

You may want to check with a good certified Merc dealer. They may offer a transition from the 3000 series to the new shifter assemblies. I did a quick search on Google, perhaps there is some additional info you could gain from the iboat forum...or the one from Crowley Marine

Well i would like to stay on the cheaper side which is why i was going to go with this one. I know i can get a $300 one but if this one would work i would take it but i need to know if it will work.

Thanks for helping!

Will this one work?

Also if i get 2 of these cables will they work for the throttle and shifter cables?

The only times I've used non-merc stuff was on older outboards. I would suggest going directly to the source - Teleflex - and asking them. Same thing about the cables. I wouldn't doubt that it would work - I just can't say for sure.

Well i talked to Teleflex and they said that model does NOT have the trailer button (Tilt) button and i would need the part number 311325-001 model.
My question is would it be cheaper to install a tilt button on the dash or beside the control box?

For under $60 you can find a stand-alone trim switch - either dash/side mounted or attaches to steering wheel. In fact, there's even a nice one that mounts/looks like a turn-signal stalk. But, you won't have a trim limit function without spending a few more bucks. You could accomplish all of this with (2) regular rocker switches, too. One for trim up and down, one for tilt/trailer up. The second one should be a momentary on and ideally wired up so that you can only tilt/trailer when both switches are held in the up position.

Personally, I'd spend the extra bucks and keep it simple with it integrated into the control box handle.

Are you sure your current control box is bad? How does it move with the cables off? I *think* there's a friction screw that allows you adjust the drag.

Well it is hard to push forward and when you put it in reverse its really hard and it catches the plastic around the trail tilt button so i just assumed it s part cables (not being greased for a few years) and part old/original control lever.

The only way to know for sure is to remove the cables from the stick. At least this way you'll know you're spending your money wisely. On the other hand, if you just plain want a new stick, go for it!:smt001

What would i be looking for when i remove the cables?...lol...not sure what i would test to see if it was the cables or stick?

Nothing special, just seeing if the binding happens with the cables off, as well. If the stick moves freely, you know the problem isn't the stick. Narrowing things down/eliminating variables, that's all.

Yup i am going to try that tomorrow morning actually. Im thinking its the cabels but if im redoing the entire boat i might as well put a new controler on too...lol

They're both Teleflex, so I would think so. But, your best bet is to call Teleflex and confirm.
