The other day when trying to raise the anchor the windless would not go up, it goes down but not up. I can hear what sounds like a solenoid click in the anchor locker but can't see it. Help! is the solenoid the problem & how do I get to it? 08 Amberjack 29' Thanks

Same result with the foot switches down works; up I just hear a click in the anchor locker. I see in the manual that the solenoid should be in the bilge. It appears somewhere there is also a control box. Does anyone know where this control box is? The manual just shows that there is one, doesn't say where it is.

The solenoid in the bilge simply sends power to the bow. So if it works down, that is not your issue. The control box will be in the bow, within a few feet of the windlass. It is a $150 kind of piece. It has 3 control wires going to it, then a power feed in, and 2 power feed outs headed to the windlass. Start at the windlass and follow the heavy red wires as they will lead you right to the box. If you can reach it readily, it is a 10 minute swap out. You can use a meter to verify the power out is only working on the down side of the output.

As a quick test you should try tapping the motor with a wrench as you try to retract the anchor. I had similar issue last season. I swapped out the control box which didn't fix the issue. If I tapped the motor it would work intermittently. I removed the motor and had it refurbished at a local shop for about $125 and it works like new now.

Took about an hour to access the anchor locker through the bulkhead; saw a box with Quick solenoid on the side & applied my solenoid repair tool with a firm hand -- now I have both up & down -- for how long I don't don't know. I also have the model # if I need a new one. By the way, some people call my solenoid tool a hammer. Thanks to the help I received here, I knew about where the problem was and what to look for & didn't spend the day in the bilge. Thanks to all.

Always feels good to figure it out on your own versus paying someone.
