I believe I have read all of the Quicksilver threads on here but can't find my answer. I have the 6.5 in my 89 DA. The dipstick is plastic and runs through a plastic tube to the outside of the generator. The tube is tapered and just sticks in a hole in the side of the motor. No grommet. Seems like something a previous owner rigged up. Has actually worked ok for the last couple of years that I've had the boat but is now giving me some issues. And its nearly impossible to reach with the unit installed in the boat.
The parts manual shows what appears to be a short dipstick in a tube that may be connected to a T in the oil drain hose. Its a little difficult to decipher in the diagram but definitely not the setup I have.
Anyone have this gen and able to share a description or picture of their dipstick setup?
If there is in fact a different setup I'm wide open to ideas on how to fix this.
Also, if I replace the current stick, do I need to drain all oil, fill to stated capacity and index the stick that way? Any other options?
Thanks!

The original was metal not plastic. You have a DIY project if you can't find a junked one somewhere. Not a big deal. Buy a universal fit dipstick. Drain the oil and refill and mark the new dipstick. It is a Nissan engine if that helps.

Do you have/familiar with that generator in the 340? I only ask because the attached pic shows it on the right side of the motor. Same location as mine but that’s pushed up against the hull of the boat. That’s why it was rerouted. There would be know wats to get to a short stick like in the diagram. Gen sits on port side with very limited access to outboard side of engine.
Either way, thanks for the help!

Perhaps another CSR has one on their boat and could take a photo but these things are antiques at 31 years old and the only documentation on them is contained in a couple of well used pdfs.

Can you post a picture of your current setup? That is really weird to have the control/service side of the generator facing the hull.

This attachment shows the setup I was referring to from the Parts Manual. Looks like the dipstick (#26) is tied into a tube that goes into the drain plug. Am I reading this right? Definitely not the setup I have. I'll post some pictures of mine when I get back down to the boat. The control/service side isn't facing the hull, but that's where the original dipstick location is. I'm wondering if there was a change made when they used this block in the marine setup and the dipstick should have been relocated.

That hose/pipe has a fitting on the end of it that you connect a suction pump to for oil changes. What do you have in place now? If it was me....I would be looking at turning the unit around. It makes no sense to have the service side of the generator facing the hull.
