Sitting in The Office after sanding teak all day.

Having a beer

Wifey and Marley ( she won't let me bring the dog inless she comes) are at home, all me. Another nice evening...only one here. She is working on a remodel in our home, while we are staying in our rental, not afraid of work. Next week is 38 yrs married. 1st coat applied to rubrail today. Slower go than I thought it would be. I think it will look "gracefully aged" when complete. Beats work'in...amd will look better then when purchased...it was a lipstick on a pig thing.

Yeah, when I retire in a couple of years I'm going to need to get back into a bigger boat just so I'll never run out things to do.
I swear to god gonna tell y’all a story. Go make popcorn I’ll wait. Pop pop pop pop, melting butter. Ok we back.
Long ago in a galaxy far away in the spring I was polishing my beautiful big boat. Next to me was an old guy (little did I know I would be his age). Had a small skiff. He says to me “nice boat”. Exchange pleasantrys. He said “i once had a boat like that then came friends, kids, grandkids, got all the way up to a 40+ footer and I realized no boat was big enough for all that and I was the only one working it, thats when I sold it all and now I go out alone in this and never been happier”. And that folks is an honest to god true story. I don’t know what happen to that man, but I assume he fishes alone in peace.

Jim, this thread has been pleasantly implanted in my memory. Thanks.

It has made me start looking at my own life for those places of quiet and solitude. You know, those places where things are just kinda perfect.

I think my favorite time and place comes early in the morning. Sometimes too early, but it starts with my black Lab "Sailor" who usually is lying next to me on the bed moving around and talking to me, telling me it's time to get up. This morning that was about 6:45.

He's patient while do my business and get dressed. When I pick up my shoes he starts talking louder to me encourage me to hurry. I get my coat and gloves and his leash and we head out. He's usually carrying one of his stuffed animals which he drops when we get to the street.

He sniffs and pees all the way down to the river where I take off his leash. As he explores new scents and sights I enjoy watching the world come alive. Canada geese and ducks flying over low enough that I can almost touch them. Hundreds of them. This morning I had a golden eagle fly over, just cruising the riverbank for food. Often there are pelicans and Blue Heron. All looking to eat.

Our walk lasts about a half hour. Then we head home for a treat, and he picks up his stuffed animal on the way.

What a great way to start the day.

My favorite: The last three years I've been able to be at the boat when she gets splashed. My teenaged son is with me (covid school closed 2020 and virtual 2021)
I'm typically the 1st one in. That 1st evening or next morning are priceless. Son is pretty quiet natured anyway and hangs out in his bunk on his phone unless he wants food...The first cocktail on the boat of the year is epic.
