I am in the process of upgrading the Chartplotter/Radar on my boat. The old 2kw Raytheon Radome was bolted directly to the arch. I had to remove the top of the radome to access the screws. I removed four screws that seemed to be holding it to the arch (four big wood screws) But the radome is still stuck, I think it may be 4200 or something holding it down. So my first question is does anybody have any ideas on how to remove this without completely ruining the radome (it still works). My second question is the new radome has to mount from below. I can 't get to it from the bottom side of the arch. So I guess I need a Radar mount? does anyone know of a radar mount that has the hole pattern for the radome on both ends so I can re-use the holes in the arch?

Have you tried a putty knife? Come at it from all sides as you cut thru the adhesive?

Don’t you have a removable round access panel on the bottom, center of the arch?

On mine there is an access panel on the underside of the Arch where four bolts may be found that hold the radome onto the arch.

I tried a loose hacksaw blade, but I didn't want to scratch the arch all up. I like the piano wire idea, I'll give that a try. There is an access panel on the bottom side, but it is just a small circle, no bolts can be seen from there.

Thanks...

Greg,

Aside from the piano wire and a putty knife and brute strengh I can't help you, but as far as a mount goes I replaced my R10XX radome with the new 2KW radome (Raymarine C80 GPS/Radar) I had a a company I found on Ebay called Nautical creations fabricate me a 6" mast with a 4 deg. tilt forward and a new nav light made out of aluminum and powder coated, the best part of it was I was able to have him match the bolt pattern on the base to the hole pattern of the old radar and the hole pattern on top to the new one. If you want his info I will look for it. The cost was very resonable (approx. $185 w/ nav light).

Good luck.

PS: I see you are local were do you keep your boat?

Greg, When I mounted my radome (from underneath) I used a hole saw and made 4 access holes in the precise location of the mounting bolts, these holes are covered with white plugs that apparently are used in the cabinet industry (I think they are 1 inch), they USED to carry them at my local Sears Hardware. The plugs sit flush making for a very neat looking install. I've also seen radomes installed like yours...caulk and self tapping bolts from the top, can't remember the last time I saw a radome blow off! Mike

Usually, the access plate on the underside of the arch is about 5 inches in diameter. While the 4 hole pattern on a radar may be slightly larger than that, you should still be able to reach the bolts from the access hole.

If you'd rather have a mount, I recommend Edson, but you'll still have to bolt the mount to the arch in the same fashion that you would have bolted the radar to the arch.
