Raising the Helm Seat on a 330 Dancer

You must be running slowly. At 22kts (3200 RPM) with no tab Just Ducky runs very slightly bow up even with full fuel. I'm short and I always running sitting down on my power adjustable helm seat. I have no visibility issues. Maybe it is a tall guy problem.

Best regards,
Frank C

It is a tall guy problem. I am 6'3" on a good day. Yesterday we went out for a cruise and I either have to stand and hunch, stand and roll back the canvas forward of the arch or stand/sit semi slanted with my feet up against the helm, which cramps my legs. Like David, lots of cushions and stuff will raise me up when sitting but it's not stable.

We want to step up to a 450 but this will keep that from happening.

450 is a low profile boat, too. Did you check the standing head room?

Hello all.

I finished raising the helm today. Came out great. I raised the seat by ~4" using plastic lumber. The lumber is the same stuff they make picnic tables from. The company I purchased from is called Plastic Lumber. Their www is plasticlumber(dot)com. Very good folks to work with and very helpful through the whole process.

It took a lot longer than expected as the project was a learn as you go thing (read 4 trips to home depot for hardware!!) I ended up stacking 2, 2x4's and a 1x4 under the sliding rails. Under the fiberglass pod the rails used to sit on, I used another 1x4 as a backing plate. I ended up using 1/4x6" bolts to hold the whole thing in place. I used a fender washer and a lock washer in front of the nut. In order to get the length I needed on the 1/4x6" bolt for the nut and washers to fit, I had to counter sink the bolt and washers with a spade bit the same size as the fender washers.

I would have posted pix but my camera just went toes up.

As a plus, I just picked up storage for at least 2 PFD's at the helm.

There were a few things I would have done differently, but not many.

Total cost for the project was less than $50.

I'll post pix as soon as I get another camera.

Rather than raising the seat up, could you make a seperate thicker seat cushion that is matchted to the vinyl upholstery on your seat? You could shape it similar to that of a flip up bolster so you could set or lean against it....you could make a slight extension of material that would tuck in between the seat back and the cushion.

I considered this option after you mentioned it. It priced out at $300 for a cushion. This was the first thing that made me reconsider this option!!!
