I just finished one of my 350 MAGs raw water pump today. I followed the instructions given by Dave S, a great help. I also noticed that my back plate has the same concentric groves in it as Dave's did. My question is is this normal wear?, will replacing the impeller using this wear pattern cause an air issue? or should the back plate be replaced? What is interesting is; there was no air issues or over heating issues using the present water pump. The reason for the change was I am the second owner of the boat and I amn not sure that the first owner had the pumps serviced.( 140 hours when purchased ) At any rate, The port side (this is more complex because of the wiring around that part of the engine.) will also have to be done and if the back plate shows the same wear pattern, then I will have to replace both or if this is OK use both. If any one has run across this issue get back to me. Thanks to Dave S.
