Oars for now!
As I make offers on my next big-boy toy - 340 Sundancer 2004 to 2008 - I'm curious about finding some of the newer and FREE on-line software that we can use for dreaming.

Example: While I live in the San Diego, CA area, I'm thinking of cruising the Sea of Cortez. So to that purpose, what on-line and FREE resources are available?

Yes, I'm well await of the cruising charts, their benefits, etc. and was very close in studies/courses to getting my Captains license. But this is simply to "play and fantasize."

We were just down to San Carlos a few months ago, ‘cruising the Sea of Cortez’ sounds really great, good luck!

Aquamap, Active Captain are some other popular apps. Not sure if there is a cost.

SteveS:

I'll check them out.

What part of N. IL? I've boated out of Waukegan Harbor for several years.

Thanks.

I’m up at North Point as is Golfman, Nepenthe.

Check out the boating apps group on Facebook for some ideas

Superwa:

Interested in more info on the "steps" type of structure you have attached to your swim platform in your video.

C-MAP is still free to plot but can’t use it for Nav unless you pay

It’s a dinghy davit from thedinghydavit.com Love that I got my platform back and I just push a button to get the dinghy on the boat.

Very nice.

What's the roughest seas you've been in with that davit setup with your dingy and motor attached?

Navionics app has a free trial and then its a whopping $25 for a year, with downloadable maps, etc.
Well worth it IMHO.

As mentioned above, this is probably the best viewer out there, there is a free online version, but you can't navigate with it. The phone/tablet app is well worth the money.
Navionics: https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#boating/routing/automatic@10&key=cfalFd~bpM

This is the desktop viewer link, not sure if it's free or not as I have all Garmin/Navionics charts.
Active Captain: https://activecaptain.garmin.com/en-US/Map

Argo Chart Viewer - just google that, it's free for use on phones/tablets.
