Does anyone have any knowledge or opinions on this boat? We had one at the marina the other day (transient slip) and I really liked the layout. I looked at the specs and this 40 footer has 2 staterooms and 2 heads. I also liked the semi circular seating in the cockpit. I know it's not a Searay but I would appreciate your opinions.

Nice boat! You can get them with Volvo's IPS drives, which over the last 6 or so years, have been darned near bulletproof. If I was buying a new boat, it would be the Regal 44SC with IPS.

i was just on a 2002 3860 Friday. The interior space surprised the heck out of me!

I guess I need to get on one. Pictures of the layout have my curiosity up. Carver, how was the quality? The 44SC is a gorgeous boat!

We have a Regal Dealer near by and I always like the quality and build of them....From my limited experience Regal builds a very nice boat.
I haven't been able to see anything larger than say 25' since it is a smaller dealer but the cruisers at the boat show have always been very nice and appear to be well thought out

Going to the Norwalk Boat Show this month. Maybe there will be a few of the larger cruisers there.

I didn't see Regal in Atlantic City. They're doing build to order now, as are most boat manufacturers.

Oh. They'll be in Norwalk. Maybe I should take a run up there.

Doesn't say which boats they are exhibiting.

Maybe they will have the either the 40 or 44 SC there.

I honestly think that the quality is every bit as nice as the same year Sea Ray. I used to have a smaller boat along with my Carver and I shopped heavily at 21' sport boats. I thought I was going to come out a Sea Ray owner but after some heavy comparing the 2150 Regal won over the 215 Sea Ray hands down...

Go post a Q on regalownersforum.com which is a rough equivalent of this site for Regal owners. You'll probably get just as biased a view as you would get here asking about Sea Ray, but at least it will be from someone who knows.

Yeah I am looking forward to the Norwalk show. I have never been. I typically hit the Newport show instead. This year I have talked the Admiral into both. Lucky man!

I was the first member on the regalownersforum site so I'll give this a kick (I've also owned four of them - 2860, 3260, 3760, 4460).

The 3860 is a nice boat, but it would not be my choice of the Regals. It is the one boat in the line-up that does not have the distinctive "clipper" bow. The layout is great and spacious, however be careful of the gas engines. I think the boat is a little underpowered with the 8.1 litre Volvos and the boat should really have diesels. I have no experience or knowledge of the IPS's. The other thing with the gas engines is the range is somewhat limited (maybe 100 miles or under at cruise speed).

Two boating friends own gas powered 3860's and the boat has served them well though. Regals are well serviced and nice boats - as are Sea Rays as well.

I seriously pondered a 2660-2765 Regal in my search for a 270. That thinking ended when I determined the areas I boat lacked the service infrastructure that the Merc has that gives me peace of mind as I travel. With a true trailerable cruiser I will be in many states some quite rural, so this is a big deal to me.

The Regal was quite nice, but after 3 weeks of intense detailing trying to bring a 13 year old boat back to like new I am even more impressed with the quality of the Sea Ray.

Check out service in your areas.

Hello, I just bought a 2005 Regal 3860 Commodore Express Cruiser. Engines are Mercruiser 8.1 with 800 hrs. The boat was well maintained and its Port was Lake Michigan; so it was stored indoors in the winter. I previously owned a Sea Ray 300 which was a solid boat. Although quality of build, fit and finish were comparable, the Hull of the Regal definitely rode smoother over waves. Plus, the attention to the interior craftsmanship seems more luxurious. I'm very pleased with my choice and I could not have gone wrong buying another Sea Ray, 38 Sundancer. However, the aft private cabin with a head, twin beds and vanity cabinet was not available on the Sea Ray.
