Remanned engine break-in

Installing 2 remanned 4.3's What is the best procedure for initial start-up? The boat is not in the water...
Is it ok to run to dial it in on muffs?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.....

I just made sure to prime my engine before starting after installing. You can do this by disconnecting the coil so it doesn't have spark and just turn the engines for a few seconds at a time. They also make a tool that connects to a drill that goes into the distributor hole that turns that will prime it as well. I ran mi Enron muffs to set my timing etc..... all was fine.

I agree pull the coil wire and crank it for short bursts. It should already be well lubricated while being rebulit. If your doing this on muffs don't run it too long like this and also raise the idle up to over a thousand for better oil circulation. If all is well put it in the water for break in under load. Also be sure not to idle it for long during break in.

You have to idle to bring up to temp though. At least that's what my paperwork says for my engine.

I would not run on muffs for long. Maybe just enough to get them warmed up, check for leaks and set the base timing. Wouldn't hurt to pressure test cooling system before hitting the water as well. When running in water, vary loads/rpm's and keep a close eye on temps. Avoid heavy loads initially unless for short bursts to get up on step. Keep idling (neutral-no load) to a minimal. Should also get that first oil change done sooner than later. I would not go more than about 10 hrs on it. Oil is cheep.
Should be able to find OEM break in recommendations online with a search. This is what works for me. I will also check/readjust my full timing advance within the first hour and before running near full rpm.
