We need to replace the door latch on our Sea Ray. The plastic piece that fits inside the Mobella door latch is broken and can't be replaced so I purchased a whole new unit:

http://www.fpmarine.com/Mobella-flu...ing-door-latch-p/mf-05-530-24proflushstar.htm

We attempted to replace it ourselves and even had our mechanic give it a try but we can't figure out how to remove the headliner from inside the door hatch so that we can get to the screws that hold the door latch in place.

Does anyone know how to remove the headliner? I don't want to damage or break anything and would prefer to do this job ourselves if possible. I don't have pictures but can take some when I'm out at the boat later this week.

Thanks for any advice!!

Sandy

I have found SeaRay customer service to be very helpful. They should be able to provide drawings of that area. They can be reached at 321-449-8628.

Good luck

Just heard back from Sea Ray:

"It looks like access to the cabin entry door is from the cockpit. You will need to remove the fiberglass cover then remove the door. I have attached the procedure for the removal."

I cannot imagine how/why you would need to remove the entire door just to gain access to the inside panel of the door latch in order to remove the two screws that hold the latch in place.

I'm thinking about just taking the plastic cover from the inside of the door and swapping it with the broken one on the outside for now.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I really shudder at the thought of dismantling our cockpit door just to replace the door latch.

Thanks,
Sandy

Headliner - pull the vinyl out where it rolls up over the head liner backing (plywood). The screws are under the vinyl along the edges. They screw the plywood with the vinyl glued to it then roll the liner over the edge and tuck it in. Just carefully pinch the liner and pull it from behind the plywood and the screws will be right there.

Thank you so much for these instructions! We'll be back out to the boat on Saturday and we'll try it then.

Thanks!!
