I want to replace my SeaRay Navigator gen 1. Too slow and very sluggish response when talking to the auto pilot. I have the following equipment:
ST-7001+ Auto Pilot
RL80CRC Display
Pathfinder 4 KW open array
Raymarine and Garmin, (for the Navigator) GPS antennas.

Will my older generation antenna, array and autopilot integrate into the C120?
Can I network the RL80CRC with the C120?

This would allow me to navigate on the C120 and use the RL80CRC as a dedicated radar display. I would occasionally like to overlay the radar on the C120.

Any other recommendations instead of the C120?

Thanks
Jon

YES

NO

You would still be ablt to use your RL for chartplotter functionality, but no longer radar. Only one or the other can connect to the array...not both. Keep in mind that you will need a different chip (C-Map RL vs Navionics C120)

Any other recommendations instead of the C120?

You can still buy used or NOS RL80 and have two screens HSB2'd to each other for full functionallity on both screens. Then both screens can be either plotter, radar, split screen or overlay....I only had room for an RL70 but the functionality is the same...

Thanks

Jon:

Rich122 just rejoined the CSR site. He has an '05 390DA with a very similar dash layout as you. If you look at his virtual marina shots, you will see what dual RL80s look like.

If Rich is reading this, he can chime in and support the hookup.

Dom,
I have been on line searching for an RL80. Nothing. Not even EBay. Maybe I am being to restrictive looking for an RL80CRC. Any leads?

Thanks

Jon:

I see them on ebay all the time. Search using key word Raymarine ONLY. Make sure the unit is HSB2 capable. It would need to be manufactured in the 2002-2003 time frame. Also, ask about the firmware level. The latest is 4.11, but you will be fine with 4.09 as long as you don't need to hook up a DSM300 Fish finder. In that case, I was told the 4.11 fixes some bugs issues there. While your at it, check the firmware level on the unit you have. It is always a good idea to have similar FW levels when you have them running together.

You could just bug Gary to upgrade his system to an E120 and then buy his RL80....I know his Firmware is upgraded...

Also, you will have to buy an HSB2 cable....Jim (BOE) might be able to help you there.....

about a year ago, I had to replace my rl80crc. I bought a new one on ebay (manufactured a couple years ago, but still new in box). there were bunches of them available for cheap at that time.

also, make sure it is a credible dealer you're dealing with. people are shady.

last, if you don't have the helm space, you can also use the smaller screen version of the rl80, but I don't remember what that's called.

on my 380, i had a rl80crc, networked with a smaller display l760. worked like a charm, and you get that functionality that dom is talking about (in terms of switchability between screens).

inshore, i had the smaller display on bottom finder, with the bigger one on chart/radar overlay. offshore, i reversed them.

It's amazing. The RL80CRC supply seems to have dried up. I can't seem to find one. Doesn't really matter. I have decided to stay with the navigator. It's slow and irritating but it works.

Thanks for all the help guys.

If you check ebay every few days I'm sure one will pop up...they always do.

Another option is to add an L1250. This would give you the option of adding a DSM300 for bottom contours if you want. It would interface to your existing RL80 and allow you to display and control either chartplotting or Radar over the HSB2 bus. The only thing you would NOT be able to do is use it as a stand alone Radar and connect it directly to the array. But, as long as your RL80 is connected and the 1250 is on the HSB2 bus, that wouldn't matter.

There is one on ebay now...
