My Attwood Turbo 4000 blower started to sound like it was delivering kittens this last week. Time for a replacement. I probably run it more that I need to. I use it before starting and leave it on as long as I'm running off plane. Once I start going faster I sometimes remember to turn it off. So basically it gets a lot of use. I'm over thinking this but is there anything better out there? I think the $200+ continuous use blowers are over kill in my little boat. Is there anything in between the Turbo 4000 and the big blowers that I should consider?

Thanks in advance for your help.

How long to you plan to keep the boat? If upgrade planned in the next 1-2 years buy the cheap in line blower. If you think longer buy the continuous Jabsco squirrel cage. So much quieter.

Another line of thought... you got 11 years out of the 4000 - keep things simple.

Replace with the same and run it 100 percent of the time the engine is running. It will keep the engine compartment cooler and reduce the chance of vapor lock as well as reduce potential explosive fumes. Cheap insurance.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go with the original part. It will make the switch easier. Just an FYI, I bought the boat in August of 2015 with <50 hours. I now have 230+ hours so most of the use has been in the last 5 years. I would have thought a blower motor would have lasted a little longer. I've never had an I/O before so I'm still learning about this style of boat. $35 and a half hour of time every 5 years is no big deal. Thanks again for your help.

Typically a blower, even the less expensive ones last quite a while - long enough, anyways, that it's "acceptable" when they fail. Sometimes, though, sitting and not being used is worse. Plus, the plastic blades get brittle over time, regardless of "hours of use" - whether you have a broken blade or it's the motor/bushing, who knows... but hey, it's a "mechanical thing" and they can break. :)
