Replacement swim deck ladder

Hello - the retractable ladder on the back of my swim platform rusted out and I have been searching for a replacement.

My local Sea Ray dealer said that the original part was discontinued, but he found a replacement....for $450. I really don't want to spend that much so I have been looking for another replacement.

I read on this forum the GG Schmitt is the original manufacturer, but they said they are in the process of moving their plant and said it could be 60 days before they can get me anything.

All the other places I've checked (West Marine, other retailers & online suppliers) don't have anything even close that I can retrofit. They mostly sell under platform ladders.....not the kind that slides out of the platform from the top and drops down.

Any suggestions on where to look for something like this that's not going to cost me my right hand?

Interesting. Someone recently told me they got in touch with the OEM and since they were the original owners (at least that’s what they said) the company replaced it for free. I don’t remember what year or model they had.

That looks awfully close, but mine actually slides out about 12 inches and then folds out into the water. The ones I'm finding online are fixed onto the deck and don't have that sliding capability.

It's looking like I'll have to go to the dealer....or try to retrofit something onto the platform

If I'm thinking of this right, your ladder is under a lift-up hatch on the swim platform? You would open the hatch, flip the latter 270 degrees over and aft, and then also pull it aft so the hatch then closes over the rails?

If this is the case it's set up the same way as my 270 AJ. GG Schmitt was the OEM, and I've not seen a replacement that has the same function. You need the frame to telescope out to clear the aft edge of the platform and the ladder hatch. The undermount ladders don't work because of this, and they are too thick to fit under the hatch.

Unfortunately I think you are going to have to either 1) pay the dealer his asking price, 2) wait for GG Schmitt to reopen, or 3) cobble something together.

I am in the exact same situation with a 1999 Sundeck 240. The only thing that I can find that seems like it would work is the GG Schmitt ladder (L08E3102). I just got off the phone with them, they are still 30-40 days until they can sell anything and their price was $502.67 which seems too steep for me. I will be following and hope somebody here has a better solution.

I just bought a ladder off of Amazon. Installed and works perfectly. Had to trim the hatch though- needs sanding. $120.
