replacement wiper blades

Wiper Blades & Arms for 460

My wiper arms on my 460 were beginning to rust out badlypervasively and would defy a paint job. Plus the blades were shot. I priced the whole assembly at Marine Max to find these were going to cost about $180 bucks a copy! I did what every sensible guy would do, I went to the web. Searched on "Dyna wiper arms" and found a School Bus supply house that sold the exact assembly with the washer jet option included, a 50 buck option, for $125 a copy plus sum shipping. Considering the washer jet addin, I saved about $200.00!

So Asureyez has new eye lashes and is about to get the washer jets installed today.

I took one off and took it to the auto parts store today. The nice man behind the counter went out into the isles and pulled out a pair of 20" rubber replacement parts. He fit one of them into the wiper blade that I brought.

The bad news is that it cost almost $6.50 for two. The good news is that it only took about 5 minutes. And to think I was sweating it.

Just to add to the info on the forum - from Sea Ray, the replacement blades for the 2000 410 Dancer are the 24" Flex-Black Heavy Duty by AM Equipment. The AM part number is 302-1240. The Sea Ray part number is 648 428.

After I hit Salvo Auto Parts, maybe I'll have an Anco part number.

David, Try www.directbus.com. They have replacement wipers at far less than Searay. Still expensive but cheaper than SR. They are very helpful on the phone if you have questions. Like Asureyez said, they are manufactured by Dyna Corp which I think is a Brazilian company. If you order them, don't forget the inserts that attach the wiper to the motor "pin".

I got my NEW '06 240SD at the end of October '06. How long to these blades last? I noticed mine is already spliting. I've never even used it. I don't even know why my boat has one seemed a little silly to me.

Take a good salt water wave over the bow, and you will understand!!

Even with salt spray. . .I often use the wiper, even if I am looking over the windscreen. Although usually. . I turn it on just to get a laugh out of the passengers.

I wonder if I should upgrade to double bladed neon wipers?

It's funny you said that cause I've taken a nice wave over and did turn it on and it was a laugh and I didn't consider that using it cause it was point less. I only sit and look out the glass when at no wake speed otherwise I'm sitting up on the folded up chair looking over the top.

The blade just pushed the salt around on the windshield I ended up stopping the boat and using the front fresh water sprayer to spray it off and wiped it off with a towel.

But yea your right saltwater spray and that wiper is quite funny.

Does someone know what blades are mounted on a 2002 340DA? Mine are bad and I seem to not be able to find them anywhere. They have thos little bolt and cap nut to mount them to the arm.

Up until a couple of weeks ago I would have agreed, but returning home from the Great Upper Chesapeake Sea Ray Raft-Up we were in a steady rain. Had to get home so we kept on...our eisenglass is in bad shape, so I had to look through the windshield and that wiper was a big help. This weekend the Rain-Ex goes on, but I'm not sure that would have helped much.

So, I gues it's one of those things that seem useless until the conditions are right then they're invaluable.

In all honesty. . .I am GLAD to have wiper.

Yes. . I routinely laugh at it, but I DO want my windshield clear. For exactly that reason.

I am now inspired to get fancy dual wipers. . just for looks of course (but I expect them to work).

This board gives me neat ideas
*new wipers
*SS cup holders to replace white SeaRay standard stuff.
*Get updated flares and orange distress flags
*Get a handheld spotlight to supplement my bow spot.
*buy Red/Green lights for the mast of my sailboat.

So far, I saved a bunch of money buying my Garmin GPS, which I found through this board.

Take one off, go to a trucking supply store, tell them you want a blade for a Ford L series truck. About $9 each.

Wipers Washers HELP Requested

Please excuse a highjack pertaining to a similar issue.

I boat only in salt water and am frequently taking bow spray or wash over the bow which runs right up the nose to the windscreens. These sleek windows are very difficult to see through with water on them ... refraction indexes I guess but without wipers I'd be blind to the close in sea conditions.

The wipers on the 460 only catch a small portion of the screen and that area is so low I often have to lean down to see through the sweet spot to eye ball my surroundings.

The fresh water spray is a tremendos aid in keeping the window open, because as wind and sun dry saltwater on the window it builds up a film that the blades eventually just start skipping over and all you do is sweep salt paste around. Squirting the windscreen with fresh water frequently should help, however in my case the stock spray tube appratus on the 460 is pretty lame. Oh, it heavy duty alright, so HD you can't easily bend it to actually have the spray hit the windscreen without risking crimping the tubing.

When I ordered new wiper arms they came with on the arm water jets which have tubes that can be modified to fit over the spray jet tubes. Trouble with these neat gizmos is they do not put out enough water. Water goes where you want it to, just not in sufficient quanltites to fight back the salt build up encounted in windy conditions.

I'm going to have to take these spray jet soff and go back to the stock tube sprays but first figure how to bend and aim these tubes to get better results. Also I have very weak water volume being pumped to the STB windscreen, anyone ever develop this problem and tamed it?

If anyone has tamed this beast let me know.

As dumb as this may sound I carry a sports drink bottle with a straw at a 90 degree angle to squirt on the windshield when it gets salt encrusted and the wipers just smear the glop around. Just stand up, squirt, and wipe!!

Good Idea ... But

Frank, we are talking about a lot of water and a lot of salt build up.

I'm not conerned with the little spritzes strewn back from a 6 knt wind againt a 20 knot bow wave, no sir re-bob! I'm talking about literally barrels of water going airborn from open ocean swell and chop running with 15 knts winds ... and 15 knt bow wave. A Sippy bottle of water won't deal with it let alone not wanting to opening the canvas to a new torrent.

I don't know about you, but I keep my front canvas buttoned running in those conditions if for no other reason than to hold down the salt intrusion and build up all over the helm and cockpit.

When it really gets bad, I run with the cockpit canvas up as well.

Has anyone taken off these pipe fitting SR squirters and encountered any possible fixes to improve water flow?

Anyone know where this freaking winshield waste pump is on the 460? Does it use typical house pressure from the fresh water system directly?

Ok, got tired of hunting around for a replacement wiper blade so I modified an off the shelf assembly to fit my 280. plus the old assembly was looking ratty.

Exact fit 18-53 wiper assembly. Took out the plastic thingy in the middle and the old metal one fit right in. A washer on each side and for $6 I have a new wiper that I can actually buy blades for.

sorry for the cell phone pics

TT that's exactly what I did today and this way I could upgrade to a 24" blade with increased sweep area from the OEM 20"
