One of the pins on my 5 flat coming from the trailer snapped off. I bought a new plug but when I was about to cut the old one off and re-wire it I had a thought. The whole trailer pretty much ends up going under water when I load the boat. This includes most of the wireing harness, as stock there are no breaks in the wire, it goes striaght from the plug to inside the sealed lights with out any open breaks. If I re-wire this I am going to have an opening to the water. Does anyone know if I need some sort of water proof connector? I can't be the first person to re-wire a trailer plug, anybody got any ideas.

Thanks

Heat shrink tubing.

There's even nifty little butt connectors with the shrink built in.

I solder it, liquid electric tape, heat shrink and more liquid electric tape.

I use the butt connectors which are heat shrinked and have the waterproof adhesive inside. Then I used heat shrink on top of all that - primarily to protect the connector since I think the connector seals the connection good enough. Not sure what type of lights you have but most are not sealed well so you may be getting some water into the system anyway - but you don't want corrosion in the wires.
