Ok I need some ideas. I have a 97 330 Sundancer. I want to take the old TV out of the v-berth and turn it into a closet. And then put a 30 or so inch on the bulk head oppossit the helm inside in the salon.
Concerns I have. Can I find or have made a closet door to fit where the Old TV is. And will the bulk head in the saloon hold the new TV in storms and high seas.
Any one else done this and if so to what degree of accepptability.
thanks

Don't know, but I have read many posts about tv's on this site. Use the search button at the top of the page. Also it's boating season... be patient.

Nice Boat! You can fine some pretty sturdy mounts for a good price at www.monoprice.com. I would think to be on the safe side that you would want to through bolt the mount with some sort of backing wood to take the stress off the fiberglass if you just through bolted it to the fiberglass. I imagine that access to that point is a real treat. Short of unbolting the dash and moving it out to gain access I don't see any kind of access panels in the cabin. You may be able to remove the Dash dial and switch panels and get to it that way. Then there is the issue of power. I don't believe there is a 120 V outlet around there I never noticed one in the aft berth, could be there. Then there is antenna connections as they run up the port side and your TV will be mounted on the starboard side now so you will have to run a piece of coax from the glomax amp to the TV. You may be able to do that via the OH cabin lights so that might be the least of your worries. You may be able to get a very long power cord from monoprice and run that back to the orginal outlet too. You may be able to get it over to the galley and then unzip the liner and run it up to the forward compartment where the TV was orginally mounted. The AC cord give me some concern, but hey there is AC up ther already to power the floresent lights, too bad its switched as that might be a power source.

Also have to take in to consideration the viewing angle of LCD TVs. As you go off center of the screen the picture quality degrades fast. I replaced the old TV with a 15" LCD and it fits in there flush just fine. But I find to watch it from the forward berth or from the dinette I needed to adjust the brightness up a bit. Lower then the dinette and its not viewable from the orginal TV location so the kids in the aft berth can't see it well.

I am planning a similar project only on a '95 330DA and with a 23" flat panel HDTV. I'm not sure of your helm configuration, but on mine there appears to be sufficient access from the helm side to install a backer board, having first removed the breaker panel. I'm not comfortable attempting to simply bolt to the fiberglass from the salon side. I think I can access both 120 volt AC and antenna feeds from the area of the aft berth where there is already installed a receptacle for each.

My plans are still coming together, so I would love to hear of your progress and the ideas of others. BTW, the prior owner of my boat removed the stock TV and installed a full closet door over the opening.

Check out this thread:

I posted some photos here about my set-up. I thought about the larger TV on the bulkhead location where you want to install your TV but I was concerned about banging my head entering the mid-cabin. It can be done reasonably easy....3-4hours would be my guess.

Good luck! Post photos when you are done :)
