I final got around to try and install the MMSI# my Northstar NS100SS radio that came on our boat. I found that it was already programmed with 123456789. After a call to Northstar CS they said this was a factory # and was not user changable, apparantly a factory screw up!! They want me to remove and ship the radio back to have the MMSI# reset so I can program in our #. They would not tell me how to reset the #, said it was a "legal" issue!!

Anyone know how to reset this # so I can program in our #. I'm trying the dealer as well and will report any info.

Thanks,

From what I have read, what they are telling you is correct. When I put my # in i seem to remember reading something to that effect and the Coast Gaurd Aux. told me the same thing.

Our manuals indicate the same thing. Once it is programmed, it must be sent back in order to reset it. (both raymarine)

That is probably a good idea if it or the boat is ever stolen.

DSC radios only allow one or two resets before you send it back to the factory depending on who makes it. Radios can be changed w/o sending them to the factory if you are told which buttons to press to make the change at home or on the boat. Maybe you can get a different factory rep to tell you over the phone? Otherwise, I suggest you bring the darn thing back to the place you bought it and demand a new one...
