34 year old CLASSIC 300 DA, towed almost anywhere behind the Duramax Dually Crew Cab.

Saw this add since it was similar to my boat and thought this guy needs to be shot for reversing the arch!! :smt021

He also claims it's an 89, but with all the wood interior, I know it's a year older at least!

Okay, not that I have seen this I have been wondering, I have a 268 without an arch and have wanted to add one, but I don't like foward facing arches. After seeing this, does anyone know if I can reverse the Arch on a 268 to make it a rear facing Arch?

You're my kind of guy! If this guy could reverse the arch on a 300 DA from 1987-88, I'm sure you could do the same thing on a 268 if you could find an arch for it! I don't like the forward facing arches either. They just seem awkward to me, kind of like a canard airplane! They bolt to either side, so turning it 180 degrees should work. The holes MIGHT line up, but I would worry about that. Add some plywood and drill baby drill! :smt043

I think your main issue with reversing the arch on a 268 would be getting on the boat on either side.

Should be illegal!!! Definitely!!! That guy destroyed one of the nicest feature of our classic Sea Rays :smt021

Nope , won't work

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You have to look at it, so you can mount it upside down if you wish, but you would have to wear a bag over your head when driving your boat. I must say that I fully agree with Pietro's comment though. Don't mess with the classic lines man!!

Forward facing is the way to go. Arches raked aft tend to interfere with boarding over the gunnels and access to the foredeck.

What the heck is a "Trike?" I can't find one on YachtWorld.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find one there! :smt001 but you never know...

It'll work, it would just take some work! On your boat, they would have to move the arch forward when reversing it and that would require some additional plywood behind the fiberglass. I just don't know why you would mess up perfection on the 300 DA that has the PERFECT arch!!

I'd like to add an arch too,but I can't find one for the 260 in my vintage. I, like Frank, think it's nicer to have it forward facing ones.
Here's that trike Frank

Similar to placing your VHF antennas at a 45 degree angle!!

Sorry could resist…….

I keep my antenna at a 45 degree angle because it looks better that way than it would look being broken off from one of the low bridges on the lake or my covered marina slip roof. Too much trouble putting it up and down all the time.

He's willing to trade for that? His boat must be beat. I've got 52 cents left over from lunch, but I don't need another boat, especially one with sterndrives.

Oh young grasshopper, there are those at this site that believe your antenna needs to be straight up and pointing to the stars!!!!! BTW it is on the test for CSR members!!

I think the guy could have problems standing up to run his boat with the arch reversed. It would be very close to the back of your head that way.

I was out on our boat after reading this and you are right you would not be able to stand up.

I wouldn't stand up I would be hiding my face, that's butt ugly. We board our boat from the side when the water is low and at some marinas and have never had a problem boarding our 300 from the side. The forward facing arch is a complete turn off for us on a boat. It has been a subject we have talked about a lot. We have been looking at a bigger boat, can't decide to go to a 390 then a 44 or wait 5 years and get the 44 then but it will be a rear ward facing arch. The 92 or 93 44 da has the nicest lines of any boat we have seen.

That boat is not an 88 the galley in an 88 has a spot for a microwave and a cupboard made of teak, just like the rest of the interior.

Yes, I know. If I run with trim tabs up and drives up I could probably get it to 75 degrees and without moving the antenna.

Dang! I must have missed that one! :smt021
